For those of you with a little sense of humor, here's the exciting conclusion of my Hooniverse trilogy. The third in a three-part essay about how I did a significant repair (water pump replacement) on my '79 Sport Sedan mutt with no skills, no experience, barely any tools.
AlfaBB gets a few...
I wrote a three-part essay about how I tried repair my Alfa (replace my failed coolant pump) against the advice of my mechanic. I had a Haynes manual, the support of Car Twitter, and no skills or experience...and barely any tools. Chapter two of the trilogy is now live. It's called "My God, What...
As I posted last week, I wrote a three-part essay about my questionable decision to try to fix my mutt of a 1979 Sport Sedan with little more than a Haynes manual and the support of "Car Twitter." I had no experience and no skills. Hell, didn't even have tools. The first part when live today at...
Looking for the assembly that goes between the water pump and the thermostat. See attached for parts in question. Vancouver Island, BC, so would prefer Canadian but I understand beggars can’t be choosers.
Thank you in advance!
Passing along some 411 accumulated during my latest foray into DIY, this time replacement of the water pump, and addressing a chronic, day one problem with the main oil seal. Exercise is still in process, but here's where the project stands.
The front of my engine has been...
Need a little help here....trying to plumb back up all the cooling connections and don'e see a connection for this connector on the left side of the water pump (see pic).
I don't see it on TAV37.
I know the reservoir line goes to the port on the thermostat.
Thanks for your help, JP

Offering for sale a radiator and water pump was part of a 101 series 1300 race engine in my '59 Giulietta Spider Veloce. Both probably need to be reconditioned. Parted out as I put in the original Veloce engine.
Radiator offered at $150.
Water pump at $100.
So my 86 spider graduate has been overheating very rapidly and I have opened the hood and seen coolant all over the place. I figured there wad a leak in a hose that was getting onto the belts or fan. I haven't been able to locate the leak until just recently and it seems like it is leaking right...
I recently got my Alfa started up for the first time in a few months and in the maiden voyage around the block lost a well worn v-belt. I was wondering if there was any standard procedure to replace it. Upon inspection I've found that there is not enough clearance between an element...
I recently purchased a 1971 Alfa Spider and while driving through Golden Gate Park my water pump failed. Had it towed home and after reading all the good posts on here regarding replacing the pump, I felt brave and attempted the job myself.
I ordered a new pump, fan, radiator cap, belt...
How does that price sound? The shop I go too seems very honest so I have no reason to doubt the price or their intentions. Just wanted to bounce it off you guys.
Also, on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the difficulty of replacing the water pump yourself?
I'm so tired of replacing the dang water pump. My current pump just went out after 14,000 miles, which I should be happy about as it's almost twice as long as my previous pump.
I tried fitting an electric pump, which turned into a very pricy project. The heat didn't work, and ultimately it...
So last weekend I took out my seized water pump and put in a refurbished water pump that I bought at Kragen. After about 15 minutes, I noticed that oil was leaking from the mech tach drive, so I ordered a new rubber seal for inside tach drive and that didn't solve anything...
I have a 76 Spider which was restored several years ago. :) There is 100K miles on the chassis and 5K since the rebuild. As part of the process, I thought I had a water leak (but nooooo, that was the subsequent upper end rebuild of the engine:() and had the radiator pulled and sent out. Since...
