Hi, Can anyone recommend a socket for the large crank nut (41mm?). Am more interested in rotating the engine than undoing the nut, at this stage. Thanks, Richard

Hi, Has anyone had any luck remapping the ecu when converting a classic Alfa with a more modern 156, 24v engine? Many will say use aftermarket but as i will not tune it further it would be a good solution to get rod of the immobiliser etc and use the factory ecu. Dennis

Hi, Have the 24v heads of a series 2 3.0 litre Alfa 164 sitting in my kitchen. The engine they came from had serious oil and water head gasket leaks. Anyone stripped one of these heads? How to get the valves out/back in? Any attempts to gasflow?
  4. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
Hi, Pretty sure the ignition was off at the time butfew days ago had a door open and heard the central locking activate, as it does with a battery reconnect when door open. The climate control clock had reset to zero, exactly as it would if battery disconnected. Wasn't anywhere near any...

When I stripped my spare engine I couldn't get a normal socket on the head bolts as camshafts were in the way. My solution was to remove the camshafts. Am assuming Alfa created some kind of tool that can undo the head bolts without removing the camshafts. Anyone know what these are or where to...

Hi, Have previously posted a few mentions on this topic but now, after buying a donor engine, am stripping more down and learning more about the engine - including an oil-seal error in the Fiat epr. For the moment, this is the bottom housing of the oil pump, with the pressure relief valve. Does...

Hi, I've bought a spare 3.0 24v engine. Has anyone managed to transport one in the boot of their 164? Am prepared to remove spare wheel and carpet...
  9. Alfa Romeo Parts For Sale & Wanted
I have a good deal of parts for sale from my recently totaled 1995 Alfa 164 Quadrifoglio (click here for reference). Many parts have been sold and some are pending sale, but here is a list of parts I have readily available. Please note that this list is subject to change and I will be crossing...

Hi, As many will know from my other posts, have been have some oil pressure issues - too low and too high. The remaining issue is the too high one: 6 bar at cold idle, 8 bar/off the dial if revs raised at cold. Suspect a stuck oil pressure relief valve and have heard of people using ball...
  11. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
Hi, Am looking to work on the zero after start, then 87psi at cold idle issue have had since previous oil change. Pressure relief valve on oil pump body so what is item 13 in this picture for Fiat ePER?
  12. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
Hi, Am having a bit of an on-going issue with my 24v 3.0 1995 manual 164. When first start the car, if it has been standing for a few days (the longer the worse the symptom), it takes a moment for the oil pressure to build - and then it goes over centre on the dial, to about 5 bar, until the...

I have a v6 from an alfa 164ls that i intend on putting in my triumph spitfire, the problem I've had so far is finding a transmission that would mount to the v6. I planned on using the zf from a maserati biturbo but cant find a bellhousing that would work. Any tip or help would be appreciated.
  14. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
Hi, About 3 years and less than 15,000 miles ago I bought a DiFatta air inlet hose for a 24v Alfa 164, 3.0 manual, 1994. It started showing signs of perishing within a year and began suspecting it had split. Ridiculous considering the original lasted 20 years before failing. Today, having been...
  15. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
Hi, I bought a used Porsche 944 turbo AFM for a 24v 3.0 Alfa 164 manual, Bosch number 0280 203 026, and have just taken it apart. I could feel the spring loading was incorrect so guessed someone had tried refurbishing it and failed. I took the lid off my original too for reference and resetting...
  16. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
After a split main air intake hose for a 24v 164 3.0 was replaced a year ago with an aftermarket item, I thought it would be problem solved for years to come. I was wrong, as the aging signs on the pictures of it show. This has inspired me to start looking at making up my own hose from separate...
  17. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
Hi, Now that is has happened for the second time, 10 years apart, am able to offer this conclusion with some degree of confidence: put the 'wrong' spec oil filter in your 24v 164 and expect a cambelt jump shortly after. The first time this happened was in 2008, the morning after an oil change...
  18. Engine Repair, Diagnostics & Rebuilding
Hi all, I just recently finished with building a 164 24v engine into my gtv6. i bought the engine wihtout hearing it run, and assumed it should be ok.. So the engine starts directly everytime i start it cold and hot, on cold start it will run for about 15 seconds, and than it will swing...

I've had issues with the exhaust gas recirc pipe over the years. Mostly the banjo bolt coming loose and leaking exhaust/air where it connects to the rear manifold. Decided enough was enough. Pe-1995 models don't have it anyway. Disconnected the lower banjo bolt - no problem. Disconnecting the...
  20. 164 & 168 (1991-1995)
Have any other 24v drivers tried to buy front discs and been plastered by adverts for great discs/rotors 284mm diameter and 22mm thick? Don't buy them. 24v cars need 281mm diameter discs/rotors that are 26mm thick. The 24v car is significantly more powerful and a bit heavier than the 12v 164s...
