  1. Seal installation questions

    GT (1963-1977)
I am having the exact same problem with my 74 GTV...did you ever get any feedback on this issue?
  2. Any tricks for installing interior chrome trim?

    GT (1963-1977)
I used the trim from Classic Alfa that Stephen linked above...I recommend it. Hard to beat $4/meter, and the quality is very good...it is somewhat difficult to work it around the veneers, so I would recommend buying an extra meter so you can get in a bit of practice.
  3. Wire type and gauge question

    Electrical, Chassis & Lighting
Jim, thanks so much for the very clear guidance on this one - glad to hear that the 14 gauge GXL will do the trick. Now just to arrange a weekend trip to CT to pick it up... :)
  4. Wire type and gauge question

    Electrical, Chassis & Lighting
Hi all, Let me first of all start by saying I'm not terribly familiar with wiring, electrical issues, etc...so apologies in advance if this is a ridiculous question... I'm in the process of refreshing the interior in my 74 GTV. While I'm at it, I figured I would update/replace most of the...
  5. Any tricks for installing interior chrome trim?

    GT (1963-1977)
Alright, after continued fiddling, I've come up with a semi-workable solution. Dunk the trim piece in boiling water for about 30 seconds to REALLY soften it up, bending it around the curve (it will still buckle a bit). After it cools, hit it with a torch for a few seconds to get the plastic...
  6. Cleaning/Regreasing '74 GTV Seat Rails

    GT (1963-1977)
Thanks, Wazza...I know I have some of that floating around somewhere. Can't figure out what to do with the retaining tab, so I think I'm just going to cut the whole thing off and replace with a bolt that would serve the same function...
  7. Any tricks for installing interior chrome trim?

    GT (1963-1977)
Thanks for the suggestions, WA-Alfa. I just tried giving hot water a shot, but, like you, I just couldn't get the trim to bend in a satisfactory manner. It kept buckling in the middle on me...I'm somewhat surprised there isn't a shop that stocks the trim pre-formed...or at least somewhat...
  8. Any tricks for installing interior chrome trim?

    GT (1963-1977)
Hi all, Currently in the process of restoring the center console from a 74 GTV. I just received some shiny new veneers and the silver plastic trim that goes around the veneers (thanks, Classic Alfa!). The problem is, I can't work the trim to bend smoothly around the curved edges on the...
  9. Cleaning/Regreasing '74 GTV Seat Rails

    GT (1963-1977)
Well...since I had already pulled my seats to remove/recondition my central console, and since I've been following r-mm's thread on "How to rebuild GTV 2000 Seats," I figured now would be the ideal time to replace the sagging/crumbling foam in my driver and passenger seats.... First step was...
  10. '74 GTV 2000 Center Console Removal

    GT (1963-1977)
I'm attaching the below images as references. The shift boot is stapled directly on a flimsy black plastic piece. That sits below the console/veneer, and then I have a chrome piece with several pins (you can see the holes in the shift boot) that sits above the console/veneer and sandwiches the...
  11. '74 GTV 2000 Center Console Removal

    GT (1963-1977)
Jeff, thanks for the tips on the determined wiggling...I was hesitant to put too much force into it at first, but after reading your reply I went out and finally worked the console out. Really like the idea of adding an accessory socket with the lighter leads... jf308 - yours came out...
  12. '74 GTV 2000 Center Console Removal

    GT (1963-1977)
So, I finally decided to freshen up the interior of my 74 GTV, and my first project has already got me stumped. I'm trying to get the central console out of my car - seats are currently out, and I've detached all the screws and wires going to the central console, but I just can't seem to wiggle...
  13. PPI in Washington DC area

    GT (1963-1977)
AJ, Glad to hear another GTV might be cruising the streets of DC! I have a '74 GTV 2000, and I always bring mine to Julio at Milano Motors in Kensington, MD - depending on where you are in DC, it's about a 25-30 minute drive up CT Ave. Julio is extremely knowledgeable about these cars and...
  14. Paint shop in the DC area

Capital Chapter - Alfa Romeo Owners Club
Reed, Sorry for the delayed response; I was overseas for the last few months, so I fell off the bulletin board for a bit. Good news is that I'm back in DC now, and back to working away on the Alfa addiction. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a paint shop before going abroad. That's now...
  15. Paint shop in the DC area

Capital Chapter - Alfa Romeo Owners Club
Frank, That's a great suggestion, I don't know why it never crossed my mind to ask Julio about a good paint shop in the area. I'm actually heading up to Milano Motors later this week, so I'll talk to Julio about it then. I'll put his recommendations up in this thread - figure it will be a...
  16. AlfaBB Members Map

New Members Introductions - Please Read
Just added myself to the map - I'm surprised that I'm the only one in the DC area. I know there are a few other Alfas around the city - saw a beautiful silver 1750 GTV the other day (with Dip tags on it), and a dark blue Spider downtown the other day.
  17. Paint shop in the DC area

Capital Chapter - Alfa Romeo Owners Club
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good paint shop in the DC area? I seem to be getting small stress fractures along the rear outer lip of my GTV's trunk lid (right above the license plate), which I'm attributing to a poor quality replacement trunk seal (seems to be a bit too thick)...
  18. Mechanic in the Silver Springs/Chevy Chase area?

Capital Chapter - Alfa Romeo Owners Club
Julio at Milano Motors has done some excellent work on my 74 GTV. If you need work done on your car, I highly recommend his shop. He is careful with his work, he takes the time to do it right the first time, and (perhaps most importantly) he knows these cars inside and out - my girlfriend has...
