  1. Anyone have a way to get at the engine block coolant drain plug ?

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
So, are you having to work completely by feel to get the wrench on the plug ? I can't see this thing at all from above, never mind having my arms and hands in the way. I can barely see it from underneath the car with a mirror. Are you using the "tweaked" custom wrench referred to above, or...
  2. Anyone have a way to get at the engine block coolant drain plug ?

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Thanks for the replies guys - looks like its what I figured. Wow...I like that image of the petcock (valve). I wish mine had that - but it would make it too easy of a job ! Regards, jeff
  3. Anyone have a way to get at the engine block coolant drain plug ?

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Its time to change my coolant (overdue really). In the past I have just drained the radiator and skipped the block drain plug b/c its so hard to get at. But I'm wondering if anyone has a way to do it without pulling stuff off the engine. From under the car, I can barely see it with a mirror...
  4. '69 spider's fuel gauge dead

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Success ! Jim, you are right. to test the unit wired up but out of the tank, you must ground the sender's frame to the car's ground. (I also had got the connections reversed) Thanks for the help guys. Cheers JJB
  5. '69 spider's fuel gauge dead

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
stuck on reading zero. doesn't seem to be an open wire and the ground seems good. Then I measured the sender's effect on voltage by hooking it up in series to a 12 V bench source. i.e., sender is in the "+" side wiring between the source and the VOM. With the float at the bottom of its...
  6. Only one greae fitting on driveshaft U joints

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Hi, I've had the car since '02, and have been greasing its single U-joint at the front of the driveshaft. Its the only one on the entire drive line. My bad that I have only just now realized that the owner's manual shows 4 grease fittings - 2 on each U-joint. Anyone else missing these ...
  7. Problem fitting Centerline oil filter adapter

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
talked to Joe at Centerline. It turns out there is supposed to be a recess machined into the base where the nuts sit which is missing on my example. They are going to fix me up. Cheers Jeff
  8. Problem fitting Centerline oil filter adapter

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
I have been trying to fit the Centerline spin-on oil filter adapter to my '69 spider. The problem I'm seeing is that the base of the new adapter is much thicker than the original. If I mount it with a lock washer, the studs on the block are only long enough to engage a few threads of the nuts...
  9. Duetto instrument bulbs

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
FWIW - I posted this quite a while back on this issue when my Duetto's lights were unreadable at night. I address the look of the light as well - If you want the look of the old incandescents, just use the internal reflective tape...
  10. Brighter Instrument Lights – My Solution

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
New, Brighter Instrument Lights for the Duetto... All, When I posted this thread 11 years ago, LED's for cars were a new thing. Now I see them in every auto parts store in all kinds of shapes and sizes at low prices. I am betting that some of the recent posters here are right - there may...
  11. 67 Duetto Radio Opening

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
"Captain", this is the opening on my '69 roundtail as it came from the factory. I'm guessing the '67 is the same. cheers, JJB
  12. How to clean out sill sections for rustproofing - borescope images

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I'm thinking that for now, I'll use a blow gun with a long nozzle that can reach the front and back of each section of that inner cavity that is closed off by the gussets. Then, I can blow away the debris from , say, the front of the section, spray, then...

  14. How to clean out sill sections for rustproofing - borescope images

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
I try to apply a rustproofing to my '69 spider as best I can every 2 years of so. I typically use a spray of either ACF-50 of Corossion-X which are oil type treatments that must be repeated periodically. There are other valid approaches of course. This time I was determined to get into the...
  15. Should rust converter go on before rustproofing oil/fluid ?

    Car Restoration
Thanks for the info, all. I actually also had come across the Eastwood products and have them "in stock" for an evaluation (as best I can). I'll update on this, but so far, the Eastwood Heavy Duty Rust Treatment looks to be the same as Corrosion-X HD (Heavy Duty). I have a new borescope...
  16. Should rust converter go on before rustproofing oil/fluid ?

    Car Restoration
Reed, From what what I've read, this area is nearly always rusty to some degree. I just hope its not bad. I'll get a look at it since I have bought a borescope type inspection camera that can go through the 1/2 in. holes and will take a look inside these sections to assess them. I'll report...
  17. Should rust converter go on before rustproofing oil/fluid ?

    Car Restoration
There are some related discussions on this but I can't tell if there is any consensus. I'm going to treat the insides of the sill box sections of my Duetto by drilling 1/2 in. access holes (from the inside vertical wall of the inner sill) and spraying a rust preventative like ACF-50 or...
  18. Should a noisy fuel pump be replaced ?

Carburetors, Fuel Injection & Air Intake
Thanks to all for the info. Looks like I've got some work to do fixing wiring and pressure testing. I'll post the results. Cheers, Jeff
  19. Anyone use the "RENU" gas tank restoration process ?

Carburetors, Fuel Injection & Air Intake
thanks for the feedback guys. I've read about POR-15 so maybe I'll check it out as a cheaper alternative. As you point out, the Renu dealer says they shot blast the inside of the tank, then bake on the liner material. Lifetime guarantee, but considering the price I would hope so.. :eek...
  20. Anyone use the "RENU" gas tank restoration process ?

Carburetors, Fuel Injection & Air Intake
This is related to the troubles I'm having in my fuel pump thread... The tank has visible rust inside looking through the filler with a flashlight. The local RENU dealer says ~ $425 to do this on the tank. Anyone have any experience with this process and did you like it ? Gas Tank RENU - USA...
