Had to drill the holes for the license plate and trim surrounding the taillights. Luckily I had a EE plate for reference! Slow progress but progress nonetheless.

Having finished the front of the car we to some time off. It's so hot and humid. I turned it around so we could attack the back, removed the new gas tank etc. and decided to strip the paint off the back panel to get the edge seams exposed again. 4 paint jobs with bondo in between i realized it...

Took most of the afternoon to reinstall the steering wheel and everything else that goes with it. If I remember correctly the short spring ring goes on first then the spring then the long sleeve with the flange against the spring. This arrangement requires the spring to be compressed in order...

This is the only wheel I've ever seen on 64 US version TIs. They are 1600.

The Gtv and berlina I saw at the Sebring vintage races both had the same reinforcing plates and long rods holding the box together.

Thanks Andrew.....I was told and inspected the case closely for cracks and was relieved that there were none. Sure it helped that I never turned the steering with a stationary car....just instinct. The car was never beat up with tires bigger than 175/70 and roads in Florida are in good shape...

Update FWIW the bolts on my Burman box are SAE 5/16 coarse except for the 2 on the oval cover that are 5/16 fine. Nothing metric!

Finally finished priming and painting the engine compartment, waiting several weeks before proceeding reinstalling brake lines, horns, etc. All the firewall, and other grommets should arrive in a few days. In the meantime the steering box is getting reassembled with new balls and seals, no...
