  6. 71 GTV stuck in gear

    Gearbox, Transaxle, Differential & Propshaft
I drove to the store yesterday and all was good as it always has been with my transmission. When I attempted to leave the car was mysteriously stuck in gear, even when in the neutral position. It felt as though the gear lever was shifting into where 1st through 4th would be but 5th and reverse...

  16. Differential main seal nut

    Gearbox, Transaxle, Differential & Propshaft
Pinion Nut not cooperating Is it possible that these are reverse thread? I hit it pretty hard with the impact wrench, used heat and penetrating oil to no avail. Everything else on this car has been so easy with no stuck bolts or broken studs (yet).
  17. Differential main seal nut

    Gearbox, Transaxle, Differential & Propshaft
Pinion Nut removal So, now that I have my tool, what is the trick for getting the nut off? I see there is a locking tab under the nut but the tabs are not bent up. Do I need two friends, one holding each axle from spinning while I operate the impact driver on the nut? Thanks Todd
  18. Differential main seal nut

    Gearbox, Transaxle, Differential & Propshaft
Now that I have the tool, what is the trick for removing the nut while the diff is off the car. Do I need 2 people to hold the axles from spinning? It's not reverse thread is it?
  19. Differential main seal nut

    Gearbox, Transaxle, Differential & Propshaft
Yes, the picture is from my 59 Sprint. Sounds like I need 2 tools. Thanks
  20. Differential main seal nut

    Gearbox, Transaxle, Differential & Propshaft
Thanks for everybody's help. Now I just need to figure out if the limited slip diff on my 71 GTV is small or large. Is there a way to tell before I take the drive shaft off so I can order everything before I start? I will order an extra seal to try the double it up trick as well.
