  1. How to remove Throttle Ball Joint

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
The plastic joints are still fine, owing to the limited miles on the car. They do require a firm squeeze on the channel lock pliers to seat. I did spend a fair bit of time looking over the assembly in my hand, confirming the correct orientation before I installed it - kinda like one of those...
  2. How to remove Throttle Ball Joint

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Well, that's now sorted. Quite honestly, the WORST part of the job is removal and replacement of the mounting bracket! Terrible access and it's pretty much a one-handed job. Cleaning out the shaft and re-greasing it took less than 10 minutes. With some high temperature silicone brake lube it's...
  3. How to remove Throttle Ball Joint

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Ken, you're correct - still below freezing every night, only a few random snowbanks left but the roads are covered with sand and gravel. Typically, this means a lot of time during the winter to get work done in the garage but this past one was WAY too cold (-42C was the coldest day). The extra...
  4. How to remove Throttle Ball Joint

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Ken - the car, surprisingly, has only 26,000 miles on it and we rescued it from Elliot Lake Ontario where the sports car season is fairly short (and cool) so there's probably not a lot of extreme heat that this car has been exposed to. slowcree - I'll put a 9mm combo in my toolbag when I head...
  5. How to remove Throttle Ball Joint

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Thanks ghnl, a lot of good info and pix (so I can visualize the underside of the plenum when removing the bellcrank) that will most likely be my next steps to resolve the stickiness.
  6. How to remove Throttle Ball Joint

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
I want to be able to release this end joint so I can move the linkage back and forth as well as check the bell crank under the intake - seems like where it's almost seized.
  7. How to remove Throttle Ball Joint

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
I have to free up a very sticky throttle linkage on a 1984 Spider Veloce. I want to remove the throttle ball joint at the FI throttle plate but, unlike the 1300 GT JR, the are no retaining clips on the joint. Is this just a case of pulling it off or levering with a screwdriver?
  8. Canvas top suggestions.

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
Had a zip-out in an MGB - it was zipped from inside but the outer zipper area was covered in a 2" wide flap over the upper 3 sides that kept the rain off. Should be do-able in a Spy(i)der with a little extra sewing and cost.
  9. Canvas top suggestions.

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
I'm looking for suggestions for a manufacturer of canvas top to replace the aftermarket vinyl top that's currently on the car. Ideally, it would be a double duck canvas in medium tan (to match the interior) with proper rain flaps over the side windows and, most importantly, a zip out rear...
  10. Toronto - shop for top for Spider

Alfa Romeo Club of Canada (ARCC)
What is the recommendation for a shop in the GTA that will supply and properly install a new top on a 1983 Spider Veloce? It's currently charcoal on black vinyl with tan interior - we want to change to a tan top in double-duck canvas with a zip out rear window. Need to find a shop that's...
  11. Alfa shop in Southern Ontario?

Alfa Romeo Club of Canada (ARCC)
I believe two intakes were at .0016 and .0014 and one exhaust was a tight .0018. I'll check my notes this weekend and be certain.

TSI and GT4EVR, thanks for the response. We'll look into Pinarello and see how that works out.

Yes Brad, I would expect Ontario's largest vintage Alfa Parts Supplier to fix his own cars and thanks for the parts I've got from you in the past. I have been helping friends with their 'oddball' cars over the years. Having had a number of crap English cars when I was young meant I needed to be...

Need to get a few things done to a 1968 GT Junior 1300 and I'm looking for recommendations for a capable shop. Anyone have suggestions? Looking for positive and negative experiences so I can make an informed choice. What do we need done - valve adjust (that may actually involve replacing valve...
  16. New to the Spider Forum - coupla questions.

    Spider - 105 & 115 Series (1966-1994)
I have been helping a friend out with his Alfa collection over the past few years. Mostly with his GT Junior 1300 (pretty much finished) a 164 sedan (recently sold) and a new addtion - a 1984 Spider Veloce. So now I'll be visiting this area of the Forum. It seems to have led a pretty easy life...
  17. 40 DCOE 28mm 1300 GT JR 'choke' issue?

Carburetors, Fuel Injection & Air Intake
Yes, have disconnected the cable, and it's off in the off position. The blanking plate - it just replaces the lever and gear unit that bolts on the back....? Are there other things or passages to disable? Anyone sell these or will I have to make a pair?
  18. 40 DCOE 28mm 1300 GT JR 'choke' issue?

Carburetors, Fuel Injection & Air Intake
Yes, both need to be closed. I have balanced the two carbs using a synchronizer. I will check it visually, just to be sure. By blocking the holes, do you mean where they dump into the venturi? Is there any other place to block the flow, without removing the carbs? Small spaces and big hands...
  19. 40 DCOE 28mm 1300 GT JR 'choke' issue?

Carburetors, Fuel Injection & Air Intake
But a vacuum leak would cause it to be lean and closing the idle mixture screws would further lean the mixture. It currently runs better with the mixture adjustment screws closed.
  20. 40 DCOE 28mm 1300 GT JR 'choke' issue?

Carburetors, Fuel Injection & Air Intake
I have removed, cleaned, replaced, synced and have an issue with the mixture. I have normal operation on the rear carb but the front idle mixture needs to be set at full lean to idle nicely. Basically, leaning it out fully as opposed to the other carb at about 1 turn out. I am leaning to a...
