Collar nut at U-Joint type steering GTV: why, what, how?
Sorry for a maybe stupid question. What is the function of the large collar nut at the junction between the steering shaft and short shaft which connects to the universal joint used on some late GTVs?
If this nut is tightened it will bear on the alum steering shaft support as it rotates with the shafts. That seems odd, steel on alum without a thrust bearing. Am I missing something?
