ATE Brake pistons

In rebuilding the ATE brakes with new seal kits, just how critical is the piston alignment as the template shows it should be? How is braking affected? This is one of those niggling questions everyone wants to know but wonders how critical it is.

Alignment of ATE Brake piston cutout

The flat on the piston is to allow clamping force to be even over the pad surface inder pressure, compensation for the rotary force of the disk coming through the pads.
That cutout`s flat section should match the angle of the rotor`s spin at the area of the bottom of the pad.
