Anyway I find it strange that so many have issues. I've installed nothing and just use Chrome or Explorer and have little issues. I will have blocked pop ups, but otherwise just use the site. And yes if you touch a computer somebody is recording what you do. If you don't want this, don't use a computer. Easy.

So, do you tell your wife, "Just don't use your phone. Easy." ? - I suspect not.
Essentially, you are telling me that if I don't like it, I should leave without a complaint.
But no, I'd rather let the site know, and others that use it know about the issues.

I'm complaining about the site being *unusually* intrusive, spying and problematic. It's fine and good that you are satisfied with it.
But some of us have experienced that other sites are better and hope the AlfaBB would improve.
re wife's phone, yep blame it all the time, but we have tried to change her to use an Android phone and that didn't go well.

It is not intrusive, I am not aware of it spying; could you elaborate please
Pete

Personally I can barely use email, very low tech skills, but I do know the ALFABB rocks and I am more than happy to kick in a few $$ every so often to keep things afloat.

BTW: what is free in this world?

Ha! My Dad (who lives in Glendowie just BTW) recently traded his iPhone in for a new Huawei, man that was hard work. After several weeks of trying to get a 91 year old ex-pilot learn how to use it we gave in and used a bunch of Qantas FF points to get him a new iPhone. Peace and tranquility is restored across the family

But on topic, Safari is ironically not the most stable browser on iOS. It reloads constantly for heaven only knows what reasons, I do use it on my iPad for this site and it's no better or worse than other sites.

For a small subscription you too can have a minimum amount of ads. Your choice. I am very thankful for this site's existence. Kudos to all who work hard to produce it.

I have intentionally become an electronic luddite by refusing to buy into the Iphone "revolution". Instead I've retrogressed to the late 90's and use a dumb phone that does talk and minimal texting. It's quite sturdy, fits in my pocket and cost all of $23US on Amazon. I do my Alfabb-ing on my home computer which has a nice big screen and software that does a good job of avoiding all (well most) of the problems being discussed here. It's interesting not using an Iphone when everyone else has one. You don't miss what you don't have.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area where the I Phone was invented just 45 miles away. The Apple I phone gave birth to the Android platform that is just as good if not better for a fraction of the cost. My latest Android phone at $160.00 does everything an Apple Phone does for $850.00. My Android phone works perfectly on this great website along with my P.C. I have an Apple computer but never use it. The complaints here about
A. L. F. A. B. B. are totally uncalled for...

Agree

The complaints are about the modern IT/marketing focuses world, not this site.

No diff between China & Trumpa.
Ahem . . . Well, actually there is quite a difference. While China presents itself as "communist" it has created a fascist/authoritarian model predicated on a partnership between business oligarchs and the Chinese state. This is typical fascism right out of Italy in the 1930's. Trump's economic model is free-market-capitalist and is the antithesis of fascism's version of socialism. There's a reason Trump is supported by a conservative insurgency, a great many of whom are armed to the teeth. For good reason, state socialism can't trust its own people to be armed. We are. Sorry to be off topic and I'll say no more about this but you did make the statement.

Guys that's quite enough sawing sawdust on this thread, all these banal comments are just keeping it alive and at the top of the "Recent Discussions" list....... enough already !!!

Autoguide owns the AlfaBB + several other platforms, they are perfectly in their right to advertise and market whatever they want across all their platforms - it's like the ebb & flow of the tides --> Just live with it or pony up and subscribe..... if you don't want to subscribe, then live with the adverts

This thread isn't closed yet, but hovering on the verge..... The BB does more for you than you do for the BB
--> No more banal comments or I'm going to get seriously scratchy.... cease & desist.... now go find another off-topic thread to play in

Just a reminder, my complaint isn't only about ads, it is about the poor construction of the website and the excessive tracking.
Of course, VerticalScope is completely within their rights do do this stuff and to try and make money. This is the suggestions and comments section, and thus I commented with my opinion here.

I'm repeating myself, but here again in case some don't get it.
Attached is a sample of the intrusive tracking done by the AlfaBB, this is WITH A PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP.
This is typical from visiting a single thread, and these kind of queries happen with every thread and page you visit on the AlfaBB, whether you have a paid subscription or not.
Blocking this stuff often causes problems with how the site functions, like whether the pictures display.

Don't like the way ALFABB is run. Simple, go away and play somewhere else

Platinum subscriber, chrome, windows 10, no ad blocker. Android (whatever the latest version), again no ad blocker. In either case I have had zero issues: No latency, no pop ads, no crashes, nothing. I do use the classic version but it certainly seems that the majority of complaints come from apple and/or registered users.

My only complaint with Autoguide is that they were (and are) way smarter than me and saw the cash cow that this and other forums are...

Alfa BB: Most Annoying Website Ever

You can hate it. But, you have no choice. You may think you do. But, you won't. Trust me on that. Just don't put wechat or any tencent crap on there. Not that you will have any privacy, but at least you won't have an oppressive authoritarian regime listening in on your life.... heck forget it. Don't matter. Wechat and all. No diff between China & Trumpa.
I'm with Jim, I still use a dumb phone and have no need for a smart phone or an i-Phone. When I go out to eat with my children and their friends, I'm amazed sitting at the table with them with all of their phones out paying each other with their apps. as one person for a party of 25 picks up the bill with their credit card.

As for the bb, I use Firefox with my home computer, which blocks tracking better than the other browsers. A friend, and he knows who he is, switched me many years ago from Internet Explorer and I have never looked back. I have no ads or other intrusions using the Classic setting and AdBlock Plus.

There is a recent study out done by a cybernerd in New York that Google Chrome is the worst on a computer for tracking and targeting and even worse on smart phones because they own the software and furnish your global coordinates as well as everything you're searching and key stroking. No thank you.

Snowden's disclosure about what the government tracks was just the tip of the iceberg.
