Replacing windscreen seal on S4 Spider - to Dum Dum or not to Dum Dum

About to replace the windscreen seal. The factory applied tons of caulk seal under the rubber seal. Anyone knows whether this can be left out? Can't I just fit the rubber and apply a small bead of modern sealant afterwards?

when I had the screen replaced (cracked) on my S4 here in Germany by professionals they used a sealant all around the screen seal called "abtupfbar" (I suppose you could call it dab-it-off!)
(Würth or Terodicht do one)

I took the screen out myself by cutting the rubber, then did all the cleaning up around the lip, new clips, rust proofing, painting etc, then called them in to refit.

I had already bought a screen sealant, but they wouldn't use it and insisted on this "abtupfbar" stuff.....it is a sealant specifically for putting in new screens with new seals (ie. not used to try reseal old leaky screen rubbers) and one that doesn't make a sticky mess....when you got the screen in and want to remove the excess, you just make a ball of the sealant and touch it to the excess and it lifts it off, cleanly, like magic...no chemicals, no messy rags etc!
