Carr fire, Redding, CA, July-2018

Well, after being evacuated and worrying about my "stuff", I was allowed to come home yesterday. Yes, the house was still here, and more importsntly, the Alfa is untouched! YooHoo!

I have lived through fires but this one was horrific. I have seen terrible firestorms on tv but never was "up close". Over 100,000 acres is less than a week and many homes destroyed. I will never look at fires the same again. Thank you guys for your experiences and I can now relate to the feeling of your home being taken from you. I am humbled and grateful.

I would have LOVED to have taken all 5 vehicles with me but there was no time. One minute the fire was 3 miles away, the next police were at the door saying "get out!". The winds blew an ember over and started a new fire just blocks away......

I am glad your home and cars are OK. I know the feeling. On July 6, we were given about 30 minuets to evacuate due to the Irish Hill fire, in Amador Co, California. We threw the usual stuff in our 2 daily driver
Subaru's and spent the night at our daughter,s in Ione. Thanks to CDF fire crews the fire was stopped about 50 feet from our home, although about 3 acres of our property were burned and the winery (previously owned) next door was destroyed. My collection of rolling stock, including 9 Alfas and a MGTC plus several Model A's, Jeeps. tractors and trailers were unharmed thanks to the fire crews that stayed by our home for 3 days. I have kept a close eye on the Carr Fire because We need to travel through Redding on our way to the Alfa Convention in Olympia, WA. Some times we are just lucky.

Amen. My heart hurts for those who lost possessions and I cry for those who lost loved ones. Although only 35% contained right now, the majority of populated areas are under no more threat. You will have no issues traveling through Redding. From I-5 you may not even realize there was a fire.....
