mystery fuse

My S3 has an inline bullet fuse on the passenger side of engine compartment right next to the coolant overflow bottle. What is it for?

Probably something a previous owner added. Have you traced the wire?

My S3 has things inside the engine compartment that I have no idea what they are. Previous owner added a toggle switch and mounted it on the side of hood catch and still don’t know what it is. Best of luck.

I think it is the in line fuse for the VVT. A black and green wire coming off the distributor leads to the fuse.

the troublesome fuse under the rear shelf (for fuel) is identical, which is best swopped out for a bladed fuse holder.....lots of BB threads on that one

Yup, that's exactly what I have on my S3. Same spot. The wiring diagrams help identify a lot of those types of items. Mine was totally corroded once I opened it up.
