Air flow meter plug removal

It looks like it just plugs in (I want to remove the airbox and clean it up and paint it..), but I am paranoid about breaking something related to the computer/electrics...just pull gently but firmly or is there a lock of sorts that I am missing? Thanks in advance

I think he’s talking about the electrical connector.

It’s held on by a c-shaped metal spring clip. Usually if you wiggle the connector a bit it’ll pop off, but you can use a small screwdriver to move the clip to make it easier. Careful it doesn’t go flying off.

Look in the pic above. On the connector part closest to the AFM, you can see a short piece of silver wire on each side. That’s the c-clip. You can push that wire to the side with a small screwdriver to help release it.

It’s possible on your car someone lost the clip and just didn’t replace it.
