Boy that's an understatement! Round tails in particular seem to be victims of unsafe repairs...

Solid driver does not mean it's rust free. As you know, rust is expensive to fix as is poorly repaired crash damage.
This is the only rust I am aware of. Thoughts? Could it be from a leaking battery?

It could be. The best way to see if it goes all the way thru is to "poke it" with a screw driver.

It may be from brake fluid. Also, I note that the 2 brake boosters are missing (assuming this is a 1969 Spider). The brake system has been modified somehow so would need to be checked out.

Wire brush the rusty spots and coat with POR. You can then match the paint and touch it up What is the model number on the firewall data plate? That will quickly tell you USA or other original market sold

Yes, it's a 69. My mechanic owns it and is going to sort out everything before he sells it. It should be ready in a few months. He'll know what's been modified or replaced. I went by earlier this week just to take a quick look and see if it's something I'm even interested in. I'm now trying to learn more about these cars so I'll have better knowledge and a list of questions when it's ready. I started this thread trying to identify the color, which I'm pretty certain it's verde farina or verde vivo, both are listed as AR 217. Apple green and vivid green are also shown as AR 217. Very confusing? Why use the same number for multiple colors? I should probably start a new thread just asking for general advice since this thread has sort of evolved in that. The folks here are great!
