The #6 fuse powers the dash warning lights, reverse lights, gauges and the fuel cutoff solenoid. Since the car now has carbs, a possible suspect for the short could be the now disconnected fuel cutoff solenoid wire. It should be a white wire somewhere in the vicinity of the distributor.
