Another "oil type" question

Hello All -

I'us jest wondrin' - What's the difference between GL-1 & GL-5 gear oil? I have a bottle of GL-1 - can I use it in the diff. or steering box of my '82? (I'm running Shell Spirax in the trans. - working quite well.) Thoughts?

What, no "lubricologists" our there in BB land reading this post? C'mon guys, somebody must know the difference between 1 & 5..........

From some web searching, looks to me like GL-5 has EP (extreme pressure) additives and GL-1 does not?

In any case, Spirax GL-5 is cheap, available, and works well. I would not tempt fate by trying something else.
