In an 83 alfa spider, when you pull down the carpet to were you can see the jack, what is the black plactice box with all the hoses running to it?

Nothing should be in your trunk. No tools, no jack, no spare tire (tyre for the Brits), maybe a can of fix-a-flat for a slow leak. You could take a credit card from your wallet and put it in the trunk. Alfa dies? Call a tow truck or AAA. All else is extra weight and slowness . . . else it is a never ending saga of putting more and more in the trunk "just in case."

Perhaps I should carry a tow rope and jump leads so that I can rescue modern cars!

Not sure about there but in the UK you can grow a seriously good beard while waiting for the AA.

Gentlemen -

Whilst I appreciate the spirit that wants to carry a tow rope to rescue modern cars, I feel obligated to reproach you and remind you that a Italian Spider never tows other cars.

The whole design of the car dictates against it. The reason that you only have two seats is so that you can rescue the beautiful woman by driving her to safety and a drink to settle her nerves, while leaving her brutish companion with his broken vehicle.

If you used a tow rope, you'd have to drag him along for the drink.
