My 67 Duetto only has the Rubber Mat

There is no hardboard (Masonite) or plywood subfloor. The mat just sits over the gas tank and spare tire. There is a molded foam piece that fits over the hoses exiting the gas tank, but it is very small.

FWIW, an old pic from my S3 showing the foam bit.
Might not be exactly the same as what yours requires, but the concept is likely the same.

Dang, I Jones for Chuck's toolset . . .

Looks like a later model had fewer tools, only the tire wrench and plug wrench (double-ended spanner)?? Where was the bar that drove the spanner? There was a post-105 toolset for sale on e-Bay recently by Vangelis (here on the ABB also, see parts post). The more original 72 set just recently sold for $200. Here are a few current ones (search: "alfa romeo tool"):
1. Link1 - not original for a 72!!
2. Link2
3. Link3
From time-to-time the spare tire hold-down wingnut and bracket come up, and a jack occasionally also.

One thing you don't want to find there is Jimmy Hoffa.

NO there was no board under the rubber mat over the tire, BUT I cut and put a piece of 3/16" Masonite in over the spare tire well as the rubber develops ripples/sags and eventually cracks in the rubber mat. May get around to doing it over the gas tank but the gaps are nowhere as big and it seems to be holding up fine for 40 years. Original mat there.

Ghid...traducimi la domanda, se non ho capito male lui chiede come deve essere il tappetino della sua spider CT del 1976... una 2000 Veloce?
Cosa c'entra il set di atrezzi? grazie!

OK, well that is brilliant. I think I have enough information now to sort out my boot over the next few dismal weeks of winter. A carpet set is on order and I will fabricate a hardboard undertray to support it.

Thanks to everyone for all the useful responses!

Don't use hardboard unless it is the moisture resistant type as it will buckle in the dampness. Thin marine ply may be a better bet.

It's only been there 20 years - unpainted - and still looks pristine. This in a humid climate that got 55" per year rain. If you have that much moisture in your trunk, I'd suggest that you may have bigger problems. Unless perhaps you plan on using it as a boat . . . and install a bilge pump! You could use Lexan (Plexiglass) also. Keeping it thin is a key.

Regarding the proper jack:

I seem to recall very vaguely and very long ago that someone was rebuilding or offering up innards to rebuild the factory bit?

Or perhaps it was the end cap they were producing.

****. I wish I could remember onnaconna it seemed like it was something of great use at the time...

My rubber mat in my 71 was pretty decrepit and worn- the PO had patched the tears at the bend points together with duct tape on the underside.

I took it out and used it as a pattern to make a marine plywood floor. I've never liked having the gas tank and the spare unprotected, from random damage. The floor is in two pieces to allow getting the spare out without uncovering the gas tank side. I've painted it black and sealed it and put a 12 inch round stencilled Alfa Logo on it on it in red.... I'll eventually replace the rubber matting but there are more important items (like front bushings and springs) on the shopping list before I get to mats.

Sounds about right to me although from a "concours" point of view you should also have a rusty 13mm combination spanner, a Haynes manual for a VW Polo and an empty Castrol Valvemaster container. The spare tyre should also be flat and bald on the outer edge. There are bonus points for it being a different size to the other four on the car.

Get these sorted and you're shoe-in for a prize at the next Cotswolds run!

See you there?

They say never get caught with a dead girl or live boy, I guess you should check your trunk for this & contact the PO if you find to the contrary.

While you are at it, and you find some spare time and change ($$), there is a good thread as to what tools, spares and accessories might be in there. Of course the list grew and grew until you'd needed a trailer to haul it all. One thing most agreed, hence the photo from Tifosi above, is a fire extinguisher (thread on that also).
