Alfa OEM Stereo/Cassette

Well in the quest to find the perfect radio for my car I happened across an OEM radio that was being parted out. I have a nice Blaupunkt CD player in right now but the backlighting just clashes with the rest of the interior lights at night. (Yes, for some stupid reason this matters to me and I can't afford the really expensive radio I want that matches) Plus this thing was only $11 on Ebay and I couldn't pass it up.

Its the original Alfa AM/FM Cassette made by Clarion. I believe it will need to have a security code entered for it to funtion as anything other than a dash-filler.

Any idea on where to start digging for info? Clarion maybe? I searched the Digest and didn't see anything. I figure you guys out there with factory radios might have come across this problem now & then.

I've got ryhthm....I've got muuuussic....

Well I have my 1991 OEM radio working now, thanks to the efforts of Ferrari of Seattle. Using the serial numbers from the deck, they placed some calls to Alfa and relayed the codes to me along with how to clear errors in case I mis-typed.

In short, this was a quick fix and any old/current Alfa dealer should be able to do this for you but I have to admit I'm impressed by the professionalism and patience of their service department. Considering I'm just a guy with an old Alfa all the way out in NJ it was nice they helped so much.

If the service they gave me over the phone is any indication of the service they provide to their local Italian car clientele, you folks in Seattle are very lucky.

Rbitzer,

Did you try Bobcor Alfa (now Park Avenue Acura) in Maywood?

They are lot closer to you than Ferrari of Seattle, and their service/parts dept. still deals in Alfas.

Just curious to see how they are doing these days. They were once one of the giants of the US Alfa scene.

That's a very friendly and helpful dealership
Consider you are in NJ, and they are in Seattle.

Yeah I had posted about my code problem on the digest and a west coast Alfisti recommended Ferrari of Seattle and gave me the phone number. If I had Bob-Cor's I would have tried them first I guess but it was a matter of following the first leads I had.

Obtaining Radio Codes

I recently purchased a '91 Spider without the radio code. The radio is the OEM Clarion AM/FM Cassette. I now have the serial number but have had no luck on the net services. I hate to bother Ferrari of Seattle. Has anyone found another source for the codes? Thanks

To follow up...(only two years after the last post!) WHERE is the radio's serial #? Where could I find the code (as well as how to clear errors once I mistype it as I invariably will--Murphy's Law and all that)?

Thanks!

When I needed the code for my Milano's radio, I called Alfa Romeo in Florida. Sorry I don't have the phone #. It is in the alfaowner mags, I will try to look for it tonight.
