Post Cryptic password nonsense.

I'm always amused by web sites that force users to create a complicated, soon forgotten password as though the site held the secrets of the universe. We does this site require a 10 character password that is more complicated than my bank, my job, my credit card companies or the IRS? I like this site a lot and use it/post to it regularly, but I do so from many different devices and having to remember a unique, convoluted alpha/symbol/numeric password is apparently beyond my mental capacity. So I end up resetting my password frequently. This is far too much work for an enthusiast bulletin board system. I own several other cars and the multiple bulletin boards supporting those cars stick to the industry standard for non-critical, non-financial data. 6 or 8 characters, alphanumeric, non-alpha optional. Hey! Board management company, can we please lighten up a bit on this password requirement?

LastPass

I use an encrypted password vault called LastPass to store all of my passwords. https://www.lastpass.com/

It stores all of my passwords and I usually just let it generate secure random passwords for me. I use a long pass PHRASE on it plus two factor authentication to protect it.

I do agree that I don't really care if someone breaks into my account here though - for all I care my password for alfabb.com could just be "password".

.

Many years ago, when I worked in the I.T. business, we had numerous users who logged into multiple 'high security' systems, - each one requiring a long complicated password.

Not a single one of those users could remember these multiple passwords - which must be changed regularly - so most of them ended up writing their passwords on scraps of paper hidden under their keyboards or in notebooks invariably left lying on their desks...

Most browsers nowadays offer to save your passwords. At least I know Chrome does.

BTW, I use LastPass.

Oh my god it happened AGAIN! AlfaBB Suddenly stopped accepting my 10 character, 1 cap, one non-alfa-numeric, 2 number password. Tried it a dozen times. Requested a reset. Waited 5 minutes for email. clicked "reset" option in email, waited another 5 minutes for new password to arrive in email. Entered random letter password from email to get in. Went to change it to something less random, got the CURRENT (random password from email) password wrong and had to enter everything again. Really, this sucks. AlfaBB isn't Comcast. Quit treating your contributors like Comcast does.

GHNL, I saw your post and read the thread for why it changed to 10 characters, but I don't buy it. Why do users have to suffer because some third party app got hacked? There is NO REASON for a password this complex on a BB site. NONE!

Now I've forgotten why I wanted to log in to begin with....... oh, yes, because if you perform a search for a thread without logging in, the site makes you type in a capcha. Pfft.
