VVT is a MUST in N/A engines. In the 75 twin spark, it gives you plenty of power even below 2000 rpm and partial load... I did test the car with and without VVT...
Now if you go turbocharging, ok...

It's not a good idea to disable the VVT in any way. It will result in loss of power or in increased mpg. You don't want the VVT engaged while cruising...

Rpm and load should be more than enough to determine the VVT state. This is the way it works with the stock ecu anyway. And it sure is enough to help achieve high mpg while cruising and higher power...

In MS-2 through the gui you can control the VVT state (on/off) on 2 variables maximum. This is the only VVT MS-2 can support.
As long as 12volts are applied to the VVT actuator of an 2.0l 8valve...

Yes Megasquirt can operate perfectly an ON-OFF VVT, based on 1 or even 2(!) variables. For example it can be controled based on rpm or load or both!
