Agreed, what I mean is running a properly mapped system without VVT, the TS cams are actually pretty sporty, and could be mapped with 'static' timing that is somewhere between the stock VVT 'idle'...

Yep, it has a solenoid that pushes open a valve that allows the oilflow, which actuates the variator.
