Anyone have a wiring picture of the back of the Fuel/Oil/Temp gauges?

This would be just above the the radio hole. I am removing /restoring the radio/amp setup, and now find several wires dangling down inside the hole. I have a wiring diagram, but access is easiest...

I have had no smell with the Ansa twin tip for ~30 years-ish except in times of malfunction of vapor recovery system. Solve the vapor recovery issues, solve the smell in cabin. Top up or down.

Check the Starter solenoid - if the little black grounding wire/connector is loose ( gets warm, - hot, expands ) it can behave the way you describe.
