Restoration is very expensive and most of the cost is labor. I have restored cars in the past and the time required could be as high as 1,000 hours. I always get information about restoration cost such as body work, paint, chrome plating, interior replacement, engine machine costs and other expenses before restoring any car. The price including labor is high and restoring any car is an expensive experience.

Fair enough, but this wasn't a restoration. All body work was already done, as was the motor and transmission rebuild. Additionally, they should also be aware that costs can balloon and not quote me $15,000 for the work after many phone calls and emails, only to then charge me $47,000+.

I agree with you that you were overcharged and should have met with them during the work to see what was happening.

My friend, I sincerely don’t intend to be rude but if you don’t want to read the thread then please don’t make uninformed comments.

I was on a weekly call with Daron (when they would respond) and made two trips up there to check in.

Noooooo, don't do it!!!

I bought my GTV in 1985 and my daughter was born in 1988. It was the first manual transmission car she drove, and she keeps asking me if she can have it. (She doesn't like the answer: "When I can't drive it anymore").

We have come to a compromise in that I bought a 66 Super that she can have after I'm done restoring it. (One is never "really" done restoring an Alfa, right).

At any rate, sorry to hear about your horrible experience. I don't have any car experiences like that, but I've had many house contractor experiences like that. You are a better man than I, as I doubt I'm going to be getting any invitations to dinner from those contractors........

Water under the bridge and I'm too tired and depressed to be angry, but I did feel it was relevant info for anyone considering sending their car up there.

Hope all is well and people are getting into the driving season!

I thought this might be an interesting read but the more I got into the novel the more I didn't want to finish it. The car is pretty much a race car as I see it and we all know what race cars are worth..astronomically next to nothing....they are black holes that suck money with no expectations of it ever coming back....unless the car was owned by a famous driver or Steve McQueen. I hope the owner has a happy ending to this saga. I'll unsubscribe now and let this run it's course as I have nothing more to sooth the pain this is going to be to sell.

Bad story.

One little note, the green fuel line to the carbs, get rid of it. My Sprint GT had clear green line like that on it, and with time and heat, it got very hard and cracked above the fuel pump, allowing fuel to spray everywhere. Couldn't believe the entire car didn't go up in flames.
