Thumbs up Daily Driver

99 model year Subaru Impreza WRX.
25,000kms per year and doesn't miss a beat.
Brings a smile to the dial on every drive.
Most fun thing to do in it: take off at full steam from a set of lights on a wet greasy road (220hp and 4WD helps here).

I was just scanning this thread yesterday so I thought I'd take a shot. I'm posting two pictures. The first is what my daily driver looked like yesterday. The second is what it looks like now after going belly up on I-64, after the brakes failed. What a ride that was. To keep from hitting the folks in front of me I decided to try and dart left. My left front tire clipped the HOV wall and climbed like it like a coon with dogs on its trail. Up and over she went. No other vehicles were hit and I'm fine. Too bad I only had liability. Anyone have a daily driver for sale cheap?

Holy jumpin' soy beans!!! I'm glad you're ok and I'm glad that you called me. You are a lucky man to have escaped injury or hitting anyone else. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help you, my brother!

Rev high! Alex 'Sandor' Csank

Dale, glad you were able to walk away from that one. Why not use the Junior everyday? For a while it was my only driver and I was doing a 60 mile round trip commute with it. Have you though about what you want to replace it with?

I think that should read "does your Alfa feel slow compared to the WRX". The WRX will blow most Alfas on this board away completely. Turbo motor & 4WD means the power gets to the road quickly and the Alfa won't stand a chance.

There's not many Alfas that will hold a standard WRX, and you will need to spend a lot to get the Alfa up to the WRX performance. I know your question was about feel, and not actual speed so there may be a difference there.

And on the 7th day, he made Alfas....

Thats not true, throw greg gordons supercharger on a milano, uprade some injectors, and you should be up to wrx.

Isn't a WRX good for about 5 seconds to 100 kph? If it is, do you think Greg's SC kit will get that type of performance gain? The WRX is incredibly quick as a standard car, but if the SC and injectors make it that quick, then I'm going back to speak to the bank manager again. I've spoken to Greg about one and already started saving up and hoping to do it with a rebuild in the near future. Well that's my wish list anyway. It will be hard to overcome the 4WD advantage that the WRX has.

What do you think?

I did something I regret to get the WRX - I sold my '86 Alfetta GTV 2.0. Comparing the two in terms of feel and speed can't really be done - they're different beasts, but both great cars. I'd love to have the GTV back and keep the WRX! The WRX is very fast, faster than any Alfa's I've owned, but does lack a bit of character which Alfas have in truckloads.
Anyway after about 6 months I had withdrawal symptoms and bought a 1750 GTV which I'm slowly bringing back to a race car.

Anthony, On the East Coast the summer brings the most rain and I hate the thought of it rotting. For at least awhile, however, I will have to make it my daily ride as I have no choice. Concerning what I'll replace it with....I'm pretty sure I'll try to replace it with another truck, but who knows, another Alfa wouldn't be bad...hmmm....GTV6.....Spider....
