I have been driving Alfas since 1968 and have seen so many Giulias and Stelvios in the past months. I see less than one Spider per year and never seen any Milano on the streets of Southern California except for my own cars. I have seen interesting Alfas in restoration or car collections. I should post better photos of the 1953 6C 3000 Superflow IV show car.

I was driving west on Route 6A in Sandwich, MA and saw my first spider in a year , had its roof down like me. The Driver and Passenger were so pumped they each gave me a two hand wave over the open top! Hold onto that steering wheel!!!

Today I was surprised to see a red 4C on Washougal River Road, near beautiful downtown Washougal, Washington. Last Wednesday I came out of the Washougal post office to find a new white Giulia parked behind me. The driver and his passenger were trying to figure out why a Porsche Cayman had a northern California Alfa club sticker on the back window. Turns out the Giulia is their first Alfa and they are loving it. As for the sticker, I had it so thought I'd use it as a memorial to 50+ years of Alfa ownerhip, a string that ended when I sold my GTV last August.

Gary, do you regret selling the Alfa? I have an 07 Cayman and an 86 Spider. I love both. The Cayman is the best car I've ever owned but the Alfa still puts the biggest smile on my face.

I understand how you feel. I drove, worked on and loved Alfas from 1966 to 2018. It was not easy to sell my last Alfa, a '67 GTV, but the Cayman S certainly helps in that regard. I bought the GTV from the original owner and then kept it for 35 years. It underwent decades of improvements and was a wonderful car. The Cayman isn't necessarily better; it's just different ... and I don't have to work on it as often, as is the case with all older sports cars.

Besides, I could not make myself drive the 501 red Alfa like the septuagenarian I am. It brought out the hooligan in me. There's something about the sound of Weber 45's and a modified exhaust that encourages revs and speed. I would not dare drive the Cayman the same way on a public road; it would be too fast and too dangerous.

The only mod to the Cayman is a Numeric Racing shifter, which I found necessary because the Porsche unit was awful in comparison to the Alfa's modified tranny. Porsche should be ashamed of putting plastic crap shifters in their expensive cars.

By the way, I've never named my cars until the Cayman. I call it Kim and the now departed Alfa has become Twiggy. The rear view of the two cars shows why.

I just(12:30pm) saw my first Alfa Giulia heading North on Congress in B'ton Beach! Pretty rare to see ANY model of Alfa Romeo down here in SoFlo.

Regards
