That's a great view - I will try to take a similar one of my new toy when I get a chance, meanwhile, here it is....

Fun to see the models we didn't get here in the US.. I'm curious - how are the 'modern' Alfa's considered by owners or the automotive press in terms of corrosion or reliability?

It would be attractive to import some when the 25 year mark hits - a Brera, or a 159 Sportwagon (saw one last summer, nice looking) that would certainly be different at a car show..

Cheers,

The modern Alfas don't rust in Australia. In fact it hasn't been a problem since the late 80s because Alfa started galvanising most of the panels then. My GT and the 159 have been very reliable. Both have done around 150,000 km so far. The 159 has had some of the suspension bushes replaced, a crack in the oil cooler welded, a plastic fitting on the heater radiator replaced with a metal one and new disks all round, but apart from that just regular servicing. The GT had done 117,000 when I bought it and I got the lower control arms replaced, a new clutch kit, Quaife Torsen LSD fitted and the gearbox bearings replaced due to a previous diff replacement being done badly, leaving crap in the gearbox. The standard diffs on the V6 GTs have a habit of breaking and most people replace them with either the Alfa Q2 LSD or the British Quaife ones like mine that are bullet proof and eliminate torque steer. The GT got a new radiator last December, I have replaced the clutch master and slave and the crank sensor failed on our holiday. That's about it. My daughter's year 2000 Twin Spark 2 litre 156 has been similarly reliable, with only new control arms, radiator and AFM. It is a complete and utter myth that Alfas are unreliable as Jeremy Clarkson would have you believe. The 159 does 70 km per day no problem. Also contrary to what some motoring writers say, the modern Alfas like ours are definitely not re-badged Fiats. There is nothing Fiat on them. They run rings around most of the cars on the road in the handling department. My GT has KW V2 coil over suspension and I defy anyone to beat it round corners. They are Alfas in every respect, with the driver focussed dynamics, beautiful design and wonderful engines we Alfisti expect.
