1949 MGTC

I just finish replacing four brake wheel cylinders, master cylinder and some flexible brake lines on a friend's 1949 MGTC. The brake job was easy compared to working on my 1961 Sprint Veloce. The wheel cylinders are the same, but the master cylinder is much harder to change because of the pedal box assembly.

Have always loved that car. Ever since I discovered them as a kid reading R&T magazine. There's a very pale yellow one here I have seen twice - have no idea who he is.

There was a restoration article many years ago where they poured just a bit of dark green into the black paint and it came out really well.

At one point I did a lot of reading on the progression through the TA, TB, etc. This is a '33 J1 Midget..

Vivace, I remember reading that article when I was in high school ! Road and Track, a Peter Egan column, I think. They referred to the colour as 'Warm Black', and that image has stuck in my mind ever since.

^^ kuni...very nice!
^^ MidLife....very nice!

^^ GarWood....I DO remember that article. Very odd the things I store away in my smallish brain when there are so many important things to remember.....

Y'know...here in N America we had a beautiful line of boats built by GarWood.....here you go!

Hence my user name, as I love wood powerboats. As my first name is Chris, the obvious first choice there was taken, so I went with my second favourite make !

"The name's Craft...Chris Craft."

Funny! Good coincidence. And it seems those GarWoods were about the same era as these early MGs, up to The War or just after? My initials are MG, so I've always had this problem, and assumed I'd eventually be forced to get one.

Maybe a nice Sebring GT-V8....

Long time reader of Wooden Boat, former member of the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle, rowed in mahogany Pocock rowing shells, restored a little wooden sailboat when my sons were little, and we still have a wood-framed Klepper kayak my dad bought in 1961.
