removing a scratch from a leather steering wheel?

how do you remove a scratch / scuff made from a wedding band ring on a leather steering wheel?

i tried to take a pic of it but it is kind if hard to show in the camera.

you don't feel the scratch but some of the color came off.

the scratch is at 10:00 on the steering wheel.

should i buy a black liquid dye?

i am afraid that whatever i put on it will rub right off since it will be touched constantly while driving.

i did a search on-line and many people have had similar issues with a a scratch on their steering wheel but i have not seen a solution yet on how to fix it.

i know one option is to have a leather repair shop fix it but i'd rather do it myself to keep the costs down.

Restored leather Recaro's using their products.
After 3 years still looking good. If you can somehow get them a sample leather, they'll color match dye. Bit pricey, but personally I would not take a chance with a cheap repair kit.

might give some of that Kiwi shoe scuff fixer ina bottle with the dauber top a try. Good stuff. Or a Sharpie? This one appears to have a brush applicator. I prefer the Marks A Lot. Simply because I used them when I was a kid. Ciao, chris
