Talking

September 19th (today) is "International Speak Like a Pirate Day".

"Arrh there me hearties!"

Robert Newton in the 1950 Treasure Island did the definitive performance.

From our visit to Newfoundland a couple of years ago, "Newfies" get to talk pirate every day.

Hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving, kicking off another holiday season. Too much turkey and football, and never enough family.

They're BAACK!

Dirty bastard skunks.

We were watching the tele - then all of a sudden: WHAM! right up the nose.

I went outside and checked and sure enough, I could hear them having a skunkfest in the crawl space... Bringing out the big stuff tomorrow. It's not going to be pretty.

Snow Storm

Pat and my youngest daughter was supposed to start school today. The only problem -- school is in California and her plane didn't leave New York. So who knows when she'll make it back. She sent me a picture this a.m. of the snow. I responded, I've had flights cancelled out of Seattle with a lot less snow on the ground.

It happens Larry. When you think you have eliminated them, transiants move in to take over the vacant territory. Sometimes, not always, coyote's will eat them, but then you have coyote's. This year I've plenty of coyote's, and only one skunk. Last year I had fewer coyote's and PLENTY of skunks.
Oh well.....
It snowed a bit here too 8-10" last night and now it's -1F outside my window. No SKUNKS! Coyote tracks though.

I have coyotes also; they eat cats that don't know better...thankfully, they prowl at night not during the daylight hours. I have a neighbor that I wish the coyotes would discover their dogs -- pit bulls that bark and break through the fence unpredictably. I go directly from my front door to the car.

From the sound, we have plenty of coyotes, but we also have a lot of rabbits, and that's probably helping the skunks.

Funny thing about coyotes, they like watermelons. My neighbor across the street grows them commercially. The coyotes steal them and eat them in my front yard. Weird.

When Bingo was still alive (yes, and Bingo was his name-o) the coyotes stayed the heck away from our house. Good old dog, loved people, loved cats, loved other dogs, hated the hell out of some coyotes.
