so what is the thing with the ears?
do they lock into something?
(not had to remove a giubo yet on my spider)
the first one (a seller I like, Old Model Parts, in Greece) has ears
the second one, here called 'rinforzato'/heavy duty (Spitline in Italy) no ears
both give same PN

I'm digging into 105 Giubos as some club members around here have been faced with driveline vibrations. We are down to swapping parts from cars to cars to isolate the source. We have dealt with three different driveshaft specialists to balance parts, and recently two of them have pointed at the donut as being the joker in the game. They cannot mount giubos on their machines.
One of the cars involved started vibrating after the gearbox was rebuilt, and a new repro donut was installed. My own car has a similar vibration after years of replacing/swapping/balancing everything - and a repro donut from Centerline. Hmmmm.
I still have the original Pirelli donut from my car, and will reinstall it just to see what it changes.
I looked at Spruell's site, and they do not sell the German donut anymore. As a matter of fact Paul seems to be winding his business down.
Just for fun, I tried to track down the Mercedes donut that sort of fits. Rockauto has a wonderful catalog, and in some cases it gives dimensions. This seems to be dead on. (MB 2114100415). However, given the troubles some of you have experienced installing it, I don't think it would help.
Any thoughts appreciated.

|alfaparticle||The Spruel part is a good option if you expect to be removing it in the future as it does not have to be compressed. My motor makes a lot more HP than stock and it has held up well. There is a thread about installing it which highlights an error in the installation instructions.|

|Gordon Raymond||I agree with the post above. Being a belt-and-suspenders builder, I use the 600 Hp MB version from Spruell, with the full, hardened GTA cage on the CR transmission behind my GTA engine. I do not EVER-EVER-EVER want to have the flex joint come apart without time for a shut down.|

Centerline they state OEM Pirelli brand...if that is the case, that would be the one I'd go for, ok its 17 bucks more, but not a part to skimp on really.
plus, when you come across NOS joints still in AR bags, they have the round holes, not those egg shaped thingys

|sloboy89||The cheaper option appears to be a Fiat giubo with the "ears" cut off. I got one of these from Centerline, and my Alfa specialist was not impressed. He recommended replacing with the OEM product.|

|Alfajay||If you want even more choices, look at the Spruell website (search on "donuts"). They offer stronger/harder giubos, such as their p/n 605-15851-HD. Some of these are designed for larger/heavier cars, such as Mercedes.|

OEM looks to have aluminum inserts and the other has pressed steel.
I'm not sure which has better thermal bonding characteristics with rubber.
I'd call them and inquire.

Flex joint, giubo, "donut"
I noticed that Centerline Alfa has two different types, one of which is referred to as OEM. Is there any difference in functionability or longevity?
