Bought those identical tools today and still no luck. I hear the clicks and jiggled the hell out of the radio and still it won't budge. Could something else be preventing it from releasing?? It's the same OEM radio shown in this thread.

Jack Straw Well, Kim, welcome to the Harmless Eccentrics Club. A good sound system has it's attractions in a quiet car I'm told but it's never been a priority of mine.

I'm with you. My 79 came used, with what I assume, is the original Blaupunkt cassette radio. Reception was never very good though I could get a few channels, but I didn't even try the cassette deck as I have no idea if I even have any cassettes anymore. The aerial has frozen in the mostly down position from lack of use (I may unfreeze it to get it all the way down).
The car sounds great on its own and that is all I need.
Perhaps if I decide to sell it, I will put in something after market just to say it has a working radio.

Jack Straw Jeeeze Louieeeze, all this makes me happy my S4 came with a poorly installed aftermarket radio that literally fell out of the dash.

Since I didn't want a radio in my car this was fortuitous.

Gubi Get a set of the u-shaped DIN radio removal tools. You can do the job with coat hangers but the right tool makes it easier.

You need to seat the tools and wiggle them a bit, then grab the radio via the cassette opening and it should pull straight out with a little tugging.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in to this thread 6 years later. I want to remove my S4 OEM radio as pictured in your photo in order to repair one of the A/C vents. I've tried wire hangars, finish nails and although I hear clicking the radio won't budge. I even removed the carpeted panel on the passenger side foot well but couldn't get enough leverage to push it out. Any suggestions?

Radio removal for '91 Spider

My mistake. It is a Fujisu original radio. The frame had only one hole on either side. I have already taken the frame off and you are right it will take a flat tool to get the radio out. Thanks, Doug

mcola JDB101, can you post a pic of your radio.
If the radio doesn't say Alfa Romeo on it, it may not be OEM.
If I recall correctly, you'd only know its Clarion because of a sticker on the back of the radio.

spiderserie4 this is a 91 spider clarion........you can see the 2 holes on the far right for the tool (same on far left, but not seen in photo)
is your clarion different to this photo?

If it is different, you probably need the flat keys.

The radio is an original Clarion. Maybe I just don't understand the principle of radio removal. It just looks like you have to have a tool that will slide in on either side of the radio. I will check out Crutchfield. Thanks, Doug

Gubi Sounds like it's not the stock radio then. Probably you need a tool like the one at the link below, but you might get more info if you search on the specific manufacturer. The '91 originally came with an Alfa-branded Clarion unit.

Radio removal for '91 Spider

Mine does not have two holes on either side. Just one hole each side. It looks like it needs a flat slim jack.
