Duke58 Thanks to all for your replies!

I'm removing the injectors after checking the spark plug wire and ensuring its good.

It was time for some maintenance anyway!

Elio Comello Hi Duke,
One other thing to check:
When I did my injectors, Cruzin found one that had a "fail" spray pattern. I could actually see a pile of buildup when looking in the injector port into the intake of the valve. I sprayed it with carb cleaner and used a test tube type brush to clean out the intake thru the injector hole.
If you do this you could also check the small rubber injector seal. Be careful not to lose the hard phenolic seal/seat in the intake manifold, if you use the spiral brush.
Sending the injectors in would be a wise thing...cheap at $16 each (including the upper and lower seals as well as new inlet screen and new pintle cap).

Gary Williams I like to start with the easy stuff and hope for the best. In this case, hope your plug problem is something simple: bad wire, faulty spark plug, dirt fouled injector. If the plug is fouled by a leaking valve guide or worn rings, you may get away with changing to one step hotter plugs.

No, but I will. Makes sense.

Last year, the #1 exhaust cam lobe and follower were galled- I replaced both and started using Rotella engine oil. So far, its all good.

I appreciate the advice!

The question would be is it the valve guides or the piston rings that's what you have to determine. With carbs or ITB's you have to throw in an additonal question "are the throttle bodys balanced out correctly"

Might be time for a valve job...and motor mounts again. At least the VVT mount still works.

msiert Could be the piston rings or the valve guildes are bad on that cylinder? Do a compression test to see if that cylinder is low compared to the rest.

...and only the #1 spark plug fouling on the intake side, 1986 Spider.

Using NGK plugs. I'm thinking that the injector is bad?

Any tips appreciated...
