kevr84 Finally taken mine out for a short spin since fitting one.. and it hits the ground fairly frequently.. without any major bumps

gprocket I think you have to account for the way the car is sprung also. On my lowered GTV I've got fairly stiff springs and Konis set to medium. I have yet to hit the sump and the streets around here are really bad. OTOH, I had a stock '73 GTV - a good couple inches taller and busted the sump on the same roads....

iachella Back when I posted in 2008, I removed it to reshape a bent tang. I never put it back on and have yet to scrape the oil pan. My guess is that the guard sits so low that it hits the ground occasionally, but that every time the guard hits, it doesn't necessarily mean the engine would have hit.

lockjaw I just removed mine after scraping it on almost every bump I took. My GTV sits really low already and the sump guard was just too close to the ground. After several collisions with the pavement I had it removed and surprisingly it's still in perfect shape other than a few scrapes. I paid 150 for it. Now it sits in my garage.

Gary Williams Yes, after 50 years of Alfas, I still prefer Weber sump guards over Spica.

Could have meant, if accurate, that Alfa either made or sold as a part, a sump guard. I know I picked mine up at a dealers' when I bought my car (in the deal).
Not trying to revive an old post but I remember seeing the question above and have definitive proof that the part number that is listed is correct as it is listed.

This sump guard came with a collection of parts from an estate sale and while putting one of the cars back together and planning on using this guard discovered the original label still on it and in tack. See below.

gigem75 the bigger the hammer the better! definitly blacksmith type work, shouldn't be a problem at all.

rockiemosley Mild steel is fairly easy to man-handle and re shape. You should be able to straighten it if you take it off, though it wont be exactly as new, and you may have a bit of trouble aligning the bolt holes. You cant if you dont try, that is for sure.

iachella OK, how about a new question? One of the ribs of my sump guard took a hit and is now rubbing on my sump. I loosened one side of the front and slipped in a 1/4 inch piece of plastic as a spacer. It's not rubbing now. My question is the steel mild enough to bang out the dent with a hammer if I take the whole thing off? I was worried to have the guard off the car for too long, but after reading this thread, I'm not worried anymore. I'm going to take it off and examine it, but the SF Bay Area has many potholes, speed bumps and generally bad roads, so I'll put it back on. So how easy is it to re-shape?

Donald R. I agree. "Nuff" about Sump Guards. Shall we talk about the various types, pros and cons of a roll bar. Pre-assembled or custom. Are there any that do not clutter up the view of the CHP in the rear view mirror?

gigem75 We get together just about every year at Raymond G's fish camp out on Mustang Island, couple of miles before Port A on the left. Next time we do I'l be sure and let you know and I might even drive my project down then we can find out!
This is the 74 I had back years ago. It had a sump guard. Also had a red 72, now I've got a 73, weird huh. I think this guy is wanted in at least five states!

No sump guard on this one, check out the date on the plate
