Came out of work today and flashers were on, switch popped in the OUT position, and would not latch in. Came home, searched 'gtv hazard switch', took it out (take out the two screws for the dash pod, pull it out, then easy access), levered the switch open, and in my case the little metal arm was bent away from the groove - bent it back, voila, all back together and works like a champ!
Connections - black wires (2) to center lug
Blue/Black to "L' lug
Blue to "R' lug
White to '49a' Lug

And also, what's the best way to get behind the dash to have a look and reconnect this switch?

This will definitely help me. Mine also just suffered the same fate, and I had sticker shock when I saw that new ones were $80. I'll attempt this tonight.

6. The little pin rides in these plastic slots on the push button piece. These were worn so that the switch wouldn't latch in the off position.
7. A plastic shim inserted behind the pin arm made it ride a bit deeper in the plastic grooves.
M first shim wasn't quite thick enough so I used a slightly thicker piece. I should have measured the thickness, but I think it is a seat of the pants deal. My shim came from the tab on one of those terminal covers from a new battery. I reassembled the switch it worked like a champ. This saved me about $80, and since the hazard lights will be used rarely on any Alfa, will last a long time. Did you remember to keep track of the wire connections?

Repairing a gtv hazard switch
The round hazard switch on my '73 stopped working-the button wouldn't stay in the off position, so the lights flashed constantly. The following shows how I fixed it.
1. Removed the switch from the dash by unscrewing the threaded collar from the backside.
2. The switch is held together by a bunch of snap tabs. Removed one tab and cut away the outer part where the tab latches. Could probably have removed more tabs but this worked.
3. Carefully pried and depressed other tabs until the switch came apart
4. The switch opened up.
5. The "female" half has a little lever with a pin that tracks in some slots on the "male" half-the part that pushes in and out. Can also be seen in pic 4.
