fransinge Hi, I assume you want to place a relay to save your ignitionswitch ?
I've placed a relay on a spare spot on the fusebox, no heat or weatherconditons there to cause mallfunction of the relay, just my 2 cents

Jack Straw Thanks gentlemen. I'll git 'er done. I had not tried access from the front of the plenum.

ghnl Be sure to disconnect the battery first (unless you like big sparks...).

Gubi The solenoid is just a spade terminal you can reach in and pull off. The big nut on the starter is where you want to pull power from, I think I just used a bunch of extensions under the plenum to get it off and then added a ring terminal. Helps to have small hands.

sloboy89 You can get at it by reaching under plenum from the front. Probably need to work by feel, but it's not that difficult.

Jack Straw Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm usually pretty good at getting at "impossible" fittings but I honestly don't know how to reach the starter connections from above. Reaching under the plenum seems too tight to manipulate any kind of tool. Straight down through the plenum I can see the terminals but I can't figure a way to get a tool on 'em.

I'll keep staring at it for a while and maybe it'll shape shift.

Gubi You can do it all from above without removing the plenum. It's tight but I don't remember it being crazy hard to get to the connections at the starter.

Obviously, make sure you disconnect the battery before doing anything.

Starter Relay

I want to put a starter relay in my S4 but before I dig into it I'm wondering if the starter trigger wire and main lead to the battery are better accessed from above or below? It appears that to get to them from above the plenum will have to come off so it it's simpler to come from below I'll just bribe slow creek to put it up on his lift.

Somebody must have done this on an S4.
