nlevasseur I'm a member of CAROC but a rather recent Alfa owner having purchased a spider 18mos ago. I work about 30 min from Lyons. If none of our other more seasoned members offer, I can check it out.

PS- As for the wind and cold, we have incredible humidity to match it. Even sitting in a garage they will rust just not as fast as driving thru winter salted roads.

AlfaGrog Thanks Bob. I'm looking for a restoration project and figure on doing everything. The part I'm hoping to avoid is replacing rockers. I'm sure it can be done properly but I'm shy of that type of work. I think I prefer a car that has a beat paint job to one that might be hiding all kinds of sins under some glossy red and clear. Doesn't all the Chicago wind and cold keep the rust at bay?

You might save yourself $1,000 by going direct. This car has been listed on the Chicago Craigslist for most of the summer and was just re-listed today. Go here. The same seller has a step-nose car in similar shape and (I think) a freshly painted '74 with a trashed interior also for sale.

I'm up in Kenosha, WI, a lot closer than you but still a bit of a drive away. Perhaps there is a Chicago BB'er that will step up. If not, PM me next week and I'll see what I can do.

I'm sure you know you'll be in for a full restoration no matter what, right? I don't know anything about this car's history but Chicago is not the place you usually find a "virtually rust-free" Alfa project car.

Looking for local Chicago area inspection on 74 GTV

1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 | North Andover, Massachusetts | Silverstone Motorcars

I'm interested in purchasing this car that is listed as being in Lyons, IL. I'm in Florida so it's not a quick inspection trip. I can't convince my wife to let me drive 1000 miles to check this out since the last one we drove 1000 miles for ended up being rusto bucketo.

I thought maybe someone local would have some info on the car or perhaps has seen it even. It looks to be fairly rust free as stated but I can't really tell what kind of repair wizardry happened on the driver front.

I'd appreciate any assistance.
