I missed the first 30 minutes - Dr appt...sigh.

#3 was up to 5th in class after a full course yellow, but Popow was being chased hard by the next two cars. He hooked a tire on the back side of some curbing and nearly spun, loosing one (or two?) places, but was listed as 6th. They he pitted - possibly for a tire. Both cars were back on track for the finish, and both looked a bit used.

It looks like we got 9th and 14th out of 15 cars. Room for improvement as they say, although I am not sure where they expected to end up.

I think that they were in the Alfa only race at the Mitty this weekend. They started from the back of the grid and one of them finished just off the podium.

There's another Giulietta racing but in Blancpain World Challenge. Different race lengths than in IMSA - these are sprint races, one race on each of two days during the race weekend. The cars are built to TCR rules by Romeo Ferraris, the same company that built the KMW cars. This car is run by Risi Competizione - yup, same folks that run Ferraris in several series. Driver is James Walker, Jr., and he has had some good results. Unfortunately, in the second race at St Pete, he crashed and broke his collar bone. The Dr put in a plate so he could race at VIR this past weekend, and Risi prepared a new car just received from Italy. Unfortunately, they had little time to prepare the car, so results in the two races at VIR weren't great.

I'll be doing regular coverage of both teams in Alfa Owner, so watch for the updates in each issue.

We can always use photos of the teams, drivers, and cars, so if anyone is attending the upcoming races, let me know. You can reach me here or at [email protected]

#3 car qualified 2nd in TCR but started at the back. #3 had a problem at pit stop and retired. #5 ran at back, finishing 25th overall two laps down after a 3 minute 2 second penalty stop. Much information to be learned. 37 cars in the race - two classes, GS and TCR.

If anyone gets photos of the cars at Watkins Glen this weekend, please send me a couple. I've got an [I]Alfa Owner[I] deadline in July and need to cover the IMSA TCR races at the Glen and Mosport (photos from there would be great too) and the WC race at PIR (we've got coverage for that race).

You can reach me at [email protected].

Thanks!

#5 finished 6th.
#3 was a DNF with mechanical problems.

#5 was definitely a contender but just ran into some bad luck.

Well, phoo. I was able to watch the first half of the race yesterday and will try to find it on You Tube today. #5 really was a contender. I was hoping for at least a podium.

Looks like the field is set for the 2 hour Michelin Pilot challenge cars at 2.45 mile circuit at Mosport.
Popow and Papadopolus who qualified the #3 Giulietta starts in the middle of the pack at 7th place a full second behind the pole sitting Honda Civic. The #5 Giulietta starts next to last in class and running almost 3 seconds behind the pole sitter.

I talked to a DPI team owner who is close friends with Alex P in the 3 car and they are struggling with axle problems.
Hopefully they get that sorted. The car is really rapid, but you cant win if you don't finish. The top 5 are Honda- Hyundai-Audi-Audi- Honda. The Audis are really good this year and Brian Herta's Hyundai team doesn't lack for funding.

In GS its Mustang on the overall pole then Mercedes- Mercedes-Mustang- and Aston Martin

J Michael I have asked my son to snap some pics which I will forward you if he gets it done. He is the communications coordinator for IMSA so he gets pretty busy working, but I did get a "I'll try dad" from him last night. I mentioned you had helped us out many years ago with some ink and that you needed help.
