... but it looks like the #5 Alfa is out with mechanical problems.

Wait, #5 is back, but 10 laps back.

Oh well, better luck at the next race at Sebring.
Both Alfas fell out. But the #3 was leading and fighting to keep the lead for a while.
Good coverage from IMSA TV.

The Alfas were definitely quick enough that just ran into some bad luck.

After a great run the two BMW challenge TCR Racing Giuliettas DNF'd... With about 1.25 hrs left the 5 car that started 4th had a problem at turn 1 with steam coming from the engine room but was able to continue a few laps later. However a late race charge found the 5 car crashed out in turn 1 unable to continue. The 3 car with Popow at the wheel started 12th on the grid appeared to have the race won. Exiting the Chicane with less about 30 min left something in the engine gave way maybe a turbo not sure but the car retired. The Venezuelan Popow turned the 3rd fastest lap of the race with a 159.741 just a tenth of a second off the best time of the day in TCR.

I really thought we had the race won when Popow led laps 79-81 of what turned out to be 100 lap event!!! It should be known that these TCR cars are now almost 4 yrs old but have never raced on American soil that I know of. They were just homologated to run this series 2 weeks ago.

The McLaren won overall in GS and in TCR the Honda Civic ran 1-2 beating the pole sitting Audi's

The 24 should be great. They have let the DPI and LMP cars go unrestricted....... can you say 200 + MPH !!

Side Bar Alex Zarnardi is amazing! Look for him in the BMW GTLM car! I have a few pics but cannot get them to this site.
Check back later I will keep trying.

There is going to be a lot to report on the Giuliettas in TCR. In addition to the two car team (KMW Motorsports) running in IMSA, Risi Competizione has entered a car in World Challenge. Two very different series. The Risi car finished 4th at COTA (two races) and is 3rd on the grid at St Pete. The KMW cars fell out of the Daytona race, but, as you will see in my future articles in Alfa Owner, that's not likely to happen again - they will win in IMSA TCR; my prediction.

Everyone knows Risi Competizione, but few know the people behind the KMW effort. Here's a update on them - they've won at LeMans with the R10 Audi deisels - the two guys who are managing the two Alfas are very experience in winning. They're new to Alfas, but they have strong cars and four good drivers. The IMSA races are 4 hours at Daytona and Watkins Glen, and 2 hours elsewhere. They'll be racing at Sebring next week. In the meantime, I have to find out how the Risi car finished at St Pete.

Watch for reports in Alfa Owner.

J Michael...... Lovecchio here. I'm with you that Venezuelan driver Popow is the real deal and should win the championship if the little Giulietta stays together. He drove Prototype cars for Starworks a few years back and is no kid. Those little cars are so developed they are like baby Hi Tech GT cars... driver adjustable everything. I sat in one a few years ago before they were part of the series, and they're not like the cars you covered back when we were racing Alfa's. At that time they asked me 170K with a small spares package.
I thought it was a great entry level pro car.

E-Blast from AROC

MIke, I just opened the e-blast from AROC:
(I will add something to this: please send full size photos, not thumbnails. Elyse, et al, can shrink a photo but cannot make up for crummy resolution. This means an email with an attachment, not a text message, etc. or a link to photosharing)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alfa Owner will be covering two teams racing Giuliettas in IMSA and World Challenge. Sadly, we can’t attend every race, so we need help with photographs. The two teams, KMW Motorsports in IMSA and Risi Competizione in WC, are racing in TCR (the touring car class in both series). They have both shown great potential – KMW leading at the 4-hour race at Daytona before issues arose, and Risi finishing fourth in their first race (two heat races) and taking a second in the first heat at St Petersburg.

If you are going to attend any of the races, please take photos and send them to Elyse Barrett at [email protected]. You will receive credit if your photos are used.

Here’s a link to the two series schedules:

For IMSA - https://www.imsa.com/news/082018/ims...o-classes-2019

For World Challenge - https://world-challenge.com/schedule/

Mike Hemsley and Elyse Barrett thank you for any photos you can provide.

After the this morning's TCR practice the #3 Giulietta with Popow at the wheel is 2.2 seconds off the fastest Audi RS3 and 11th fastest in the first practice session and the #5 Giulietta with Block at the wheel is .9 behind in the 15th spot. This is just the first session and Sebring is not the place where you let it all hang out until race time. The second fastest lap was posted by the Hyundai. The session results are here.. Still not sure if I'm going its a 3hr drive from Daytona.

Darn, the #5 Giulietta tangled with the #73 Honda putting both of them out.
