I switched to Valvoline VR-1 Racing Oil 20w-50 after reading favorable reviews. The main thing to worry about is the zinc content. Our engines require zinc to avoid damage and most modern oils no longer have adequate amounts of it. The Rotella has the right amount and works fine. As far as synthetics are concerned you probably should use dino based unless you have just had a complete engine rebuild. From I understand switching from dino to synthetic in an engine that has used dino can lead to leaks.

I hope this helps, good luck with your new baby... Enjoy!

Hi GA, Just bought a 89 Graduate today and was researching my first oil change. Came across your Rotella post and since I use T6 in my RV (it's only 5 gallons...7 quarts for the alfa doesn't seem too bad...but size of engines is significant 8.3L vs 2L!!). How's it going with yours' since it's been 4 years? Which Rotella do you use? T6 is full synthetic which I use in the RV for it's super additive package, do Alfa's like synthetics or is a blend better (T3) or the dino based standard Rotella the way to go? Thanks Paul

    Hi Granite,
I have been reading you transmission notes and I am going to be doing the same process soon. Can you explain the pipe endcap and puller process to pull and install the new trans bushing. I used the saw and drill method last time. Not good. I did have excellent results in the long run but very time consuming and physically hard on a old gent laying on the floor. thanks for any info,
    Don, 74 spider
