Ciao, Olaf
Here's the quoted picture, showing the bulged roof in a very evident way.

Thus as you post, the sequence seems to predate Richard`s ownership 1978? and extended beyond auction in 2006, perhaps even to this day.

Hello GTV2000/Richard,

GTV2000, thanks for posting the picture!
And Richard, you were at the photoshoot? Great! I saw the beagle being walked on page 63 of the book mentioned before. Could you please tell us more about the origin of the Scuderia Britalia cars? Such as the GT 1300 Junior Zagato?
About the sequence: All the owners that I have noted came from sources like the book 'Alfa Romeo Zagato SZ - TZ' by Marcello Minerbi, the website Alfa Romeo Zagato Register & Information Site and from sources here and at The Nostalgia Forum.
Have a look at Alfa Romeo TZ # 084 for some of the details.

Ciao,
Olaf

This is a photo of TZ *750084* with two Ontario registered SZs, what might have been *00195* of John Winter and *00147* of Oliver Collins. Since Stafferton purchased his TZ in late of summer 1978 and Collins sold his SZ in 197811 to Donald Hughes of Nashville, Tennessee, the photo could have been taken in autumn 1978 only

Hi Olaf

I can offer little more than my post years (?) ago which I cannot now locate...

Peter was an avid Alfa collector. I believe an Italian colleague found the cars but owned by Peter. I do not know the origin of Britalia since the name was in use before I knew Peter.

I seem to recall the cars were kept at various locations and though my interest was/is Zagato bodied Alfas I can really only remember the TZ, SZ and SSZ well and judging by the recall of the TZ roof not that well at all!

The SZ2 with the white stripe was definitely John Winter's. This car was sold to a US buyer in the late 80's; I believe it was Jim Weber.

The dark SZ is very likely to have been Oliver Collins', as there are no records of anybody else having owned an SZ in Ontario. But Oliver replaced 00147 by 00062, which he kept well into the 80's until he replaced it with an Osca. 00062 was a regular shade of Alfa red, and I don't recall seeing an Alfa sticker on its back; I never saw 00147. The dark color of the car makes me believe your conclusion is right.

The SZ on the right was definitely Oliver Collins car and it was '78 because he owned it from January 1978 to November 1978. I believe that Richard raced it once perhaps just before Oliver bought it. It was that dark maroon during the time Collins and subsequent owner Donald Hughes had it. It was painted a nice deep red by the owner that followed around '90. George

When I forwarded Oliver the link to the picture he said that the information was accurate and he had the original of that picture.

Hey I can solve this for you guys. I'm Henry Stafferton (Richards son) and have talked to my mom (Patricia Stafferton) about the car. My father was 6 foot 2 and about 185 pounds. All he did with the car was mechanical maintenance no modifications to the roof at all. Hope this helps.

Henry

p.s unfortunately didn't get to know my father to well and I'm very interested in finding out more about him if you have any interesting stories about him or something like that I would love to talk about it.

Henry, It was some time ago when I raced with your dad in the VSCCA..I remember him as a gentleman driver who raced for the enjoyment of experiencing the joys of driving a pre-war car...at the time I was running a '29 4.5 Bentley and a 1934 chain drive Frazer-Nash... The car I remember your dad driving was a 1.5 liter Aston Martin..if memory serves me well, it was a long wheel base International Model..He was as much good fun on the track as he was at our dinners... I was very sad when he developed his cancer.. Your mom may remember that I purchased her shares in Mobilia after dad died... Best regards, Frank Allocca

Henry, I just saw this, while researching info on our Zagatos. If you want to contact me I'd love to sit down with you and tell you happy tales about your father. He was one of my best friends for many years.

Anyone following this thread will be pleased to know that I did get together with Henry in early 2018 and over beers told him many tales of his father auto exploits over the years.

My Friend, Mike McGraw of Burlington Ontario and I attended a time trial at Shannonville Raceway in April 1979. I believe the Time Trial was hosted by the ARCC Toronto Chapter. Mike is the photographer of the Thread starter Photo so we can now date that picture. I was at the event driving my 1967 Corvette, as my Alfa at the time, a 1971 GTV FI, was not in good mechanical condition.

Mike has recently Scanned and sent me some pictures from that event and TZ 84.

There is a Time Trial Result published in one of the ARCC news letters or in ARCC Alfista which I might dig out if there is interest.

Please credit Mike if you plan to use his photographs.

Regards

Ken
