Anticipating shipping a 1750 head. Advice?

I expect to be offering a head for sale, looking ahead to a "best methods" and carrier for the task. Any experienced advice appreciated.

Go as far as to strap it on a half-pallet? Or pad it, pack it carefully and visit the UPS store?

THX in advance!

I think the head weighs around 52lbs. No need to strap it to a pallet. That would probably double or triple the shipping cost. As long as the head + packing materials are under 75lbs you can use a standard carrier. There's a nice video of how to pack a head here.

You could buy a Uline crate but it would put you close to the 75lb limit: https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail...e-24-x-20-x-20

I wouldn't do it that way.

I would use a piece of ply-wood or mdf to protect the deck as he called it. I would wrap the head in some very thick cardboard, then get some of the high density pink polystyrene stuff from home depot to put around the piece. Print out signs for all six sides to show the weight of the box. That way someone who can't lift that much, won't try and pick it up.

Haven't shipped an AR head, but have a LR head. Piece of plywood for the bottom deck, wrap it in green plastic wrap from HD - all of it, insert in appropriate sized box, fill in empty space with old shirts, peanuts whatever you have on hand, tape the holy [email protected] out of it. All have arrived safely.

Packing peanuts will squish and become useless.

It'll be plywood for the chamber surface, likely thick styrofoam sheet for the rest, after wrapping the lump in the aforementioned green plastic wrap. No cams but will be including a set of new & good used valves and new guides.

Did it have cam buckets, springs 'n valves in there? Thanks, guys, for the advice. Sounds like about 50 pounds of "stuff" so far.

Just ran a Starrett straight-edge across it, un-warped and never shaved! YAY!
