thermostat change

I need to change the thermostat in my 89 spider quad. Other than just taking out the old one and putting the new one in its place, what else do I need to do? Thanks

Open heater slide to full hot whenever draining or refilling coolant.

the thermostat is a one piece job with the top part of the housing, so you'll not find it at the local autostore, you'll need to get it from an alfa place like Centerline, Vicks whoever.

When you refit new thermostat (which has its own rubber O seal incorporated, so no paper gasket), refill with 50/50 antifreeze/water (distilled is best), then you need to start the engine let it heat up till the thermostat opens, and then undo the bleed bolt on top of the throttle body to bleed the system of air bubbles (caution, will be hot!)

the bleed bolt is circled in 1st photo here:
