New user from Sweden with 164 QV

Hi !

Thought I should post a quick hello here.
After all, I have been browsing the forums since October 2018....

I have an Alfa 164 QV(currently stationairy), that I am currently trying to get running again.
I wrote a post in the 164/168 forum regarding the troubleshooting process yesterday, but
it hasn't appeared yet.

Regards,
Carl Michael Skog

Welcome, hope it's a fun journey for you. Definitely lots of help here. I'm surprised no one has asked for pictures yet.... :-)

Cheers,

Thanks !

I will post pictures when she's a bit more presentable.
I am more concerned with getting her running right now.

I posted(my first post) a long tirade some hours ago about the troubleshooting thus far,
but that post has not appeared.

Is this normal for the first post ?
Or did I break some rule when posting a non-introductory post ?

Carl Michael Skog

If you posted on 164 tab it should be there but you have only the two posts under this section showing so far.

Hope you have a copy of your 164 post as it may have bombed out for some reason,

Unfortunately not, but it's not the end of world...

It was basically about changing the ignition coil and crank sensor to correct lack of ignition.
This did not correct the issue.

But, today I found something that just might...
The coil in a relay was dead !
This is a first for me.

It is the actual thread in the coil that is interrupted.
The diode is fine.

It was with the red stripe relay under the hood just by the ignition coil.

Bosch number is 0332014112.
The component is named "MOTRONIC RELAY WITH DIODE" with name S12b in the wiring diagram.

Regarding crank sensors...
Is the gap between the phonic wheel and the sensor important ?
The manual explicitly mentions 0.5 - 1 mm, but gives no way of adjusting this.
The OEM sensor I bought resulted in 0.2 mm, so I put a shim made of aluminum foil between
the sensor and the bracket to get it up to just over 0.5.

Tried to move the discussion to the 164 section, but the post is not appearing.
I am obviously blocked for whatever reason...
Do you have to post some number of posts(or something else) before being allowed to post in the model-specific sections ?

Go the 164 forum https://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/164-168-1991-1995/ and hit post new topic button on top of page then click on advanced and give it a title and start writing something related. Save it Theni if you have original post saved somewhere do a copy of it and then open/edit your new 164 post and paste your info into it.

Here is your original first post with replies so far that is on www.alfabb.com so you can copy that link and paste it into your 164 new topic post. https://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/gue...ml#post8426818

Once you have 10 or more posts you can add pictures, too.

That is just about what I did...
I remember, though, some info after pressing "Submit reply" that the post was subject to inspection
by a moderator.
It might be that, that is taking some time...

With key on do you get 12v in red stripe relay socket terminal 86 with pink wire from 15A F22 engine services fuse in G1 main fuse box?

Yes.

Ground is conveniently at hand on 85.

Further info:
As I said, the red stripe relay is dead. Normally, this relay is will be activated in start or run.
Even though, the relay I now have is broken, it turns out I can fake the relay function, by opening the relay and using a plastic clip, when I am in Run(on).

Which got me...
EXACTLY NOWHERE.
Still no ignition....
