Take the plug out of #1 cylinder and put a long zip tie into it so that it is sitting on the piston and the other end is sticking up through the spark plug hole. Rotate the engine until the zip tie reaches maximum height. Look on the pulley and the pointer should be at the P mark. If you consider the P mark to be at 12 O'clock then the F mark should be a little way towards 1 O'clock. Look into the hole with a flash light. If you cannot see the edge of either valves then the distributor rotor should be pointing at #1 plug wire. If you can see valves then it should be pointing at #4 plug wire.
