Different between GTV/GT and GTA

Hi guys,

I'm very new to Alfa oldies, but i'm getting interest on it. I'm wondering what's the different between the Giulia GTV/GT and Giulia GTA beside the weight and engine?? Any different in suspension design, weight distribution and etc..??

Thanks.

I would suggest that you search the internet for Alfa Romeo GTA and you will find lots of information, but I will have a go anyway:

GTA:
  • Alloy body thus weighs heaps less.
  • twin plug engines, etc.
  • Roll centres have been changed in the suspension with the biggest change being the sliding block rear suspension which lowers the rear roll centre.

In the end both the GTA and the GTAm were available with heaps of factory options and thus you could build yourself up a pretty wild machine or not ...

Hope this helps you on the start of this journey :)

Giulia sprint GTA.
Its looks are the same as a Giulia Sprint GT except the following:
1.Lightweight body constructed from aluminium, magnesium, zinc, maganium given the name Peraluman 25 and attached on the chassis by rivets.
2.Same contruction of the doors and front-rear hoods.
3.different nose grill.
4.lightweight dashboard and bucket seats.
5.different steering wheel.
6.1600 block engine but with twin spark plug head.
7.oil cooler radiator beside different water radiator.
8.magnesium (electron) bell housing.
9.close ratio gearbox.
10.magnesium (electron) differential housing and LSD.
11.sliding block rear suspension.
12.knuckle risers on the front uprights which were also adjustable for different camber angles.
13.magnesium (electron) Campagnolo wheels in 6X14,61/2X14,7X14,8X14.
14.bigger fuel tank 80-90 lt capacity.
15.Weber 45 DCOE carbs.

Max_75, there are scores of fabulous books out there on these cars, indulge yourself!

Most of the mods listed here were certainly not on every GTA. Items like sliding block, lightweight dashboard, 90 lt fuel tanks, elektron bellhousings and knucklerisers were Autodelta only. There was no elektron differential housing, but there was the elektron tailshaft housing of the transmission! They all had the lightweight seats, however. Standard they came with the crossover air plenum like a standard GTV.

Final Drive ratios were available as 5.12, standard I think, and up to 5.38. There were around 3 flavors of close ratio gearboxes. Heck, the sliding block wasn't homologated till 1966, so I don't think you'll see that in the FIA Appendix K racing GTA's?

I'd love to see what other owner's GTA's weigh. Mine is a fairly standard race car, no interior to speak of and two 3kg seats. Mine has a standard GTV gearbox and radiator, and no elektron, and weighs 1870lbs. dry (no gas, but oil and water). It has a full wiring harness and wipers. It's FIA legal. Alfa Romeo got them homologated to 1650lbs. I'd love to see how they got these cars that light back in the day!

Happy Holidays,

Sports Car Graphic tested both cars when they came out and got these results, keep in mind that this was the stock GTA, not a "prepped" one

GTA STradale 0-60 8.2 secs
1/4 m 16.8

1600 GTV 0-60 11.2
1/4 17.9

the GTA they scaled weighed 400 lbs less than the GTV they tested, it was also rated at a mild 133 hp, 160 hp was more common for prepped cars
