Vin question for a 69 1750 gtv

So in lo0king up vin numbers for 69 1750 GT Veloce on Fusi I have encountered an anomaly. Fusi has vin #s for 69 starting at 1361339 and ending at 1360043. I am sure others have encountered this. Has anyone figured out what is going on here? According to Fusi numbers preceding 1360043 belong in 68. And then he has 1970 #s starting at 1360044. Huh. Help!!

Hi Rosso,
There are a few typos/errors in Fusi's book and some are in succession which have proven allusive until now.

It is well known that Fusi's book is full of errors.

Maurizio Tabucchi's 1910 to Present book has more accurate information.

Hi Brian,
In Fusi's book (published 1978 3rd edition) there are typo errors in succession 1969/70 for the GTV 1750s. When I corrected them it implies 10,000 less 1750 GTVs AR 105 44 cars were made in 1970!

Tabucchi's book (published 1996: 10 years after the 1986 Fiat take over) depending on how he sourced his information (I don't have a copy) he may have used primary information from the factory records or he may have used secondary information, that is he never saw any of the factory records but used a list he did not collate, I don't know?

If you have a copy of Maurizio Tabucchi's 1910 to Present book, just list the 1969 and 1970 1750 GTV build numbers for AR 105 44 cars, thank you.

Regards Steve

Hello fine gentlemen,
I do find it perplexing why Chris Savill who had made the same error in over estimating the number of 1750 GTVs, by 10,000 cars. Savill published a booklet in 1998 'The Giulia Coupes 1963-1976', that is published two years after Tabucchi's 1996 book.
Savill did say he consulted Giorgio NADA Editore, which looks like an Italian publisher book shop which started in 1988. Did Savill really mean in 1998 he consulted one of the books they may have been selling like Fusi (1978) or Tabucchi's (1996)?, either way Savill's book has errors in it on page 15 when he lists production numbers. Savill's technique for putting some stories together from club members in a booklet was great. Where he went wrong was when he used other sources most likely already published books to list the production figures and other details as he failed to list the reference/s, which devalues his booklet. This should be a warning to those whom compile stories and editors and writers of stories be it for club magazines or the internet or for other purposes, site your references so we can follow your arguments/reasoning.

I have taken the time to challenge the previous post in Wiki on the 1750 GTV. (I don't delete other's posts/contributions). My first attempt to challenge the material there was deleted after 3 months, I have since challenged the previous post again. When I look up the reference of the incorrect post I notice that the website they are referring to no longer lists production figures for 1750 GTVs for 1969 or 1970 or 1971!
Since it has taken over 40 years to uncover the implications of just one related pair of Fusi's typos it's no wonder other publications referencing/using his book either directly or indirectly have made similar errors. Luigi Fusi was 72 when his book 3rd edition was published in 1978, he passed away in 1996 at age 90, so never saw Savill's booklet (1998) and may not have been in a position to view Tabucchi's (1996) book.

I welcome any one with any facts with regards to the 1750 GTVs, show me your references.

Ladislas was key to alerting us in his comment 'A while ago, I remembered reading a post where it was mentioned that some NON GTA cars were produced at the end of the 105 series with Aluminum parts?'.

Thank you Ladislas for asking, only for 1750 GTVs (sorry not for GTj).

I added this important information about 1750 GTVs being able to race with aluminum doors and boot lid on Wiki 3 months ago; 'really' someone went to the trouble to delete it? I have since reposted the details about the aluminum doors and boot lid today, a link to the discussion that helped me put together the facts after nearly fifty years later; surely valuable information! https://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/gt-...um-panels.html

Of course if the primary information still exists with the factory, then some one could check the numbers again for us there, or I could take 12 months off to get the production lists sorted, I would take my 66 GT Veloce 1600 (LHD) to blend in with the locals
Regards Steve

Steve,

Must have been a 1750 thing!

The odd 1750 Berlina has come up out of the 'Fusi ranges' too. There have been a few that have come up over the last couple of years or maybe i have started paying closer attention.

For example this one for sale at the moment down in Tassie,

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Alfa-Rom...16.m2518.l4276

I can't find it in Fusi (Ch. number 1465749).

Cheers,

Paul.
