I went to visit Renzo today at Sid's. The rear window and headliner are in and the carpet kit is almost finished. He's supposed to be ready to pick up in the next day or two.

Handbrake rubber boot

Hi, beautiful car, and great build, but I think that the rubber boot is not correct for your car. It looks like a Spider series 2 version.
I believe your car would have a folded vinyl boot that was sawn to the carpet..

JC, you are quite correct. It is one of the many areas in which I have deviated from complete originality. It's a slippery slope. As a 66 year model my car would have originally been fitted with Dunlop brakes. Who would choose to rebuild those calipers when the ATEs are far superior? I chose leather interior for comfort in hotter weather (it's much nicer than vinyl), wool carpet of a non-standard hue, and to have the trunk carpeted as well. Here in the states the overwhelming majority of 105s are running on GTA replica 14 inch wheels, or the new Alfaholics 15 inch versions. Most are lowered, and there are many GTA tribute cars around. Given the damage to my car just getting it back on the road was a huge challenge. The overall appearance of my car is closer to "factory" than most GT Veloces I see here in California. But yes, there are many things about the car that do not conform to factory trim.

Hi TJ, by all means, I'm no originality ****, and build my cars exactly as I want them, and so should you! It was just that this one seems to big for the carpet slot, but I should keep my opinion to my self.

Again, beautiful build!

Tj,
The car is looking great!! Maybe this was mentioned, but I'm curious. What underlament are you using? I can't tell if it's like the original, or an updated, newer type.
Thanks,
😎

Ah-perhaps I misunderstood. Do you mean the boot for the emergency brake? I thought you were referring to the gearshift boot which I had made out of leather as opposed to the original vinyl.

If you're referring to the e-brake boot, it was what was in the car when I got it, so I never thought twice about whether or not it was the right part.

Regardless, no offense taken!

Thank you! I'm not sure which underlayment you're referring to. The gray stuff under the carpet is what the upholsterer used. The stuff in the doors, which I also used on the floors and firewall is Dynamat Extreme. Highly unoriginal but excellent stuff unless you ever want to remove it.

Ah yes. Just some felt like insulation that my upholsterer used. It's on top of the Dynamat.

Car is lookin great, I have been waiting for it to be gone so the dynamic duo and attack my 59
progress is being made, which is nice but im a year or 2 away from the stage you're at
Are you shooting for Monterey this month?
Looks like youre getting close to the end which always takes the longest time
come apart so easily and its painfully slow putting one part on at a time
Look forward to seeing you out on the hill
Cheers

Renzo is home for good. I have no one else to wait on and only myself to count on to finish this build.

There was a fair amount of drama getting her back up the hill. We live at 1900 feet, my truck is an 18 year old high mileage F150 and was towing over 3000 pounds on a very hot day. It actually overheated and wouldn't make it up the driveway until I let her cool down for a while. I've only ever towed the trailer with a bare shell uphill, and only the nearly assembled car down hill, so I feared this might be pushing the envelope.

All is well. She's safely tucked in the shop. Now all there is to do is everything.

But seriously, it's looking great! What's ahead is the fun part. When you get it all together, you'll be wishing there was more to be done. Restoration withdrawal can be difficult.
