I'm still trying to understand why the front guards needed replacing. I can understand the nose panel but not the guards. Anyway great result, although black is not a colour I would have on any car of mine again after having a graphite Mazda 6 and finding it always looked dirty (but looked amazing when just cleaned but by the end of the driveway it looked dirty again ).

I also wonder if we now expect panel gaps to be considerably better than original?

Honestly Pete, that was my one hesitation in painting it metallic black. I had the same experience with my Volvo S60. Beautiful when clean but moments after washing it looked dirty.

I did find a picture of the doubler we install behind the outer door handle. After the 3M panel bonding adhesive cures, the outside edges are sealed to make sure no moisture gets in between it and the skin. It's simple and cheap insurance against distorting the thin door skin.

Words don't do y'alls work justice!
I like the idea of the gussets having been on a frame/chassis journey myself. How do you treat the backside of the gusset?
Last but not least was the friend who suggested the color female

The passenger seat is 15 miles an hour faster than the drivers seat.

A black '69 GTV, my dream car. Someday I'll own another '69 1750, and it will be black (hopefully with real black California plates).

I'm in agreement with the color black, nothing looks better or worse!(clean or not) The red leather brought me to this thread, stunning. I'll be working in Ann Arbor for 3 weeks at the start of May, I would love to drive over and see this GTV in person. PM coming soon Rich. Beautiful work.

Hi-
I'm Rich's partner on the project.
Regarding the color - We agreed to stick to the Alfa palette. We were originally going to go with 349 Blu Pervinca Metallizzato. (Which is beautiful but would be incorrect as it was not offered in 1969) Then we saw the interior, bought it the day it was posted and after consulting with my daughters (one a teen...) and wife decided the 901 Nero would go best with the interior. While not the original color it is correct for the year as it was available as a special order- just like the factory leather....

Keeping the Black clean is a small price to make that interior pop.

I did restore a 1973 2000 GTV back end 90`s, early 2000 in black, with red leather an dtinted windows. Awesome car, now in the hands of a guy who became a friend if mine. He prefers it for driving to work , while he has several nice cars in the garage.

As a fellow owner of a'69 GTV about to start restoration I applaud you.
My car has a 2000 GTV faschia with the four vents like your replacement one. It looks like you filled the bottom two ones on yours to give it the '69 look. Is that the only difference? eg. arethe top openings on them exactly the same?
